  1. I've spoken to a few faculty members, one of them told me they admitted only seven students. The prospective student weekend is next week and we are currently making travel arrangements, so I'm pretty sure they're all out. Of course I have no way of being 100% sure.
  2. They must've only sent the acceptances, because my application status online still hasn't changed.
  3. No way! Congratulations! How did you hear?
  4. Fianna, we say that every week! Let's hope this week we are right.
  5. Congrats, Ashiepoo!
  6. All the NYU results are out. They accepted 7 students.
  7. Does anyone know how many upvotes one gets a day, exactly?
  8. Nope.
  9. I can't get any work done! I know that checking the online portals is futile since even the universities I've gotten into still have my status as "submitted" (not NYU, there is no way to check that online), but I still check them. I can't help myself.
  10. I'm going to bury my head in the sand about that one! There was another one posted a few days ago.
  11. Ashiepoo, I have the agenda for the NYU one. It's basically, meeting with the faculty one of one if you want, showing you around campus, some presentations, meet with other grad students in the department, lunches, dinners, etc.
  12. Ah, OK. Sorry to hear, but relieved it's a different department!
  13. I see you've been rejected from UPenn. Is Ancient History a different department? I didn't think UPenn had communicated anything yet.

  15. I get this question a lot. "So, does your husband agree to just up and move across the country?" My reply always is "Well, I don't know about him, but 'I' am moving." It shuts them up.
  16. This is not so much ill-intentioned or asinine as it is just mis/uninformed. "But how are you going to pay for that? X university is SO expensive!" Then they think I'm nuts when I explain funding. It really didn't occur to me until I started this whole process that so many people didn't know PhD students usually don't pay but rather get paid. I thought it was common knowledge.
  17. I wish universities would learn a thing or two from Chicago and Northwestern, mostly to let acceptances and rejections, and wait-lists if there are any, know on the same day, that way no one is in limbo.
  18. Well, I guess now I have a choice. How do you think you'll make your choice in the end?
  19. I know, I'm being all enigmatic and stuff, but I'm afraid I'll identify myself to any AdComm member/POI lurking. Paranoia at its best.
  20. Broadly, it's Early American, but I have a thematic concentration that is pretty small, although up and coming.
  21. Now Harvard's name and prestige aside, it's the best fit for my research, from the faculty to the archive material, and so on, and I will be crushed if I don't get in. Of course, it's not only about the school, it's also about the area, job opportunities for spouse, etc. so I'd still have to make a choice, but my little heart will just implode if I get a rejection from there.
  22. Upvote!
  23. I don't know what I'm thinking for the most part, but I do know that my choice as of right now is harder than I thought it would be since Rochester's offer is so awesome. Also, I'd be pretty bummed if I got rejected everywhere else. I know, I know, I already have two offers and I can only go to one school, but that's not the point; rejection stings.
  24. Not crushed about Princeton, it wasn't the best fit of all the schools to which I applied. Not bad, but not as good as the others.
  25. There are more Princeton acceptances; you may now freak out.
