  1. I see Princeton sent out their acceptances...I haven't heard from them so I probably didn't get in.
  2. I wonder if/how many AdComm members or faculty stalk GradCafe.
  3. There's only been one Princeton acceptance on the results and it was communicated by a POI, informally. I wouldn't discount it just yet. Give it a few days. I have some good offers (2) so far but that is not to say getting rejected from the other schools won't be crushing. I went into this thinking that I would take it as it came, and that I wouldn't be crushed because I have alternative plans, blah blah blah. The deeper I get into the process, the more I see that I will be crushed by the rejections because all the schools to which I apply are great fits for me. But also, the show must go on. As they say, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings.
  4. Congrats!
  5. I was shaking so bad, and crying, after I got my firs acceptance via phone call that my assistant must have thought I was a lunatic.
  6. True.
  7. Well, I'd still have to work for him for 20 hours a week!
  8. Offer to work on a research project with my POI (with extra pay and summer work) doing exactly the sort of research I wanted to do anyway. I'm floored.
  9. One more acceptance! I just heard from one of the schools that I didn't think I'd accept if I got accepted to others, but they made me a research offer that I'm finding a hard time refusing right off the bat because it's so amazing and interesting. I'm going to have to mull this one over really hard. Everyone I've spoken to at that school has been amazing. I guess choices are a good problem to have!
  10. Upvote!
  11. How can I be out of upvotes??? I haven't given any today! I, too, am the first person in my entire family to pursue a graduate degree, and one of the few to have a college degree period, let alone one from the US. My father does have a bachelor from the US, which he got only a few years ago. Needless to say, everyone thinks I'm the bee's knees, and when I tell them I applied to Harvard they think I'm a demigoddess. If I get into Harvard, even if I end up going somewhere else, they might just build a shrine in my name. It's inspiring and terrifying at the same time.
  12. Why do you hate it?
  13. Nope, it will not.
  14. Well, I can't wait until I actually have a decision to make! Right now, it's just NYU. It was one of my top choices so it's not exactly a consolation prize, but it'd be nice to be able to actually have a choice to make. This week better bring some news!
  15. I do now!
  16. Just out of curiosity, do you guys have academia.edu accounts? I had actually not heard about it until a few months ago. I don't have an account, at least not yet.
  17. What's up with that Harvard acceptance???
  18. I contacted Ulrich and she told me she will be on leave next year. She did kindly suggest another professor whose research is much closer to my interests anyway. She's also somewhat of a big name in a tiny sub(-sub)field. I still have not heard from Harvard though so who knows!
  19. When I got the phone call saying I was admitted to to NYU, and that they were very impressed with my application, my first thought was "oh my goodness, did they read the right file? Are they sure its ME they want?"
  20. I need to do this!
  21. I hope so, about Harvard. I NEED TO KNOW.
  22. I didn't bother with Berkeley either. It was an OK fit but not worth the hearbreak, for me at least.

  24. People are horrified, and incredulous, when I tell them how much I spent applying to 10 schools, including the GRE and transcripts. Horrified! I can absolutely see how it would be an impediment for international students, especially those from less wealthy countries.
