Has anyone heard back from York Political Science (PhD)?

Yeap, I am in Turkey. 5 years ago, when I was attempting to apply for Masters in Turkey, I required two letters of recommendation from a professor who knows me very well. My final scores in her courses were always an (A). In Turkey, most generally, the LORs are given to students in a signed envelope by the professor. So I took two letters from that professors for two different applications. However, after a while I decided not to apply for one of the programs. I applied for only one program and the folder of the other application was in my room. I have never thought that I should open the letter since I believe it is not honest. However, I believed that I would be admitted to the program that I applied since my application was very strong. But, I was rejected, after being rejected, I thought that I had to check the reference letter of that professor. When I opened the letter I was shocked. It was a very short letter, it tells nothing about my strenghts, and it doesn't have any purpose like "I strongly recommend him", and in the end of letter it was written "the applicant should develop his skills", after seeing it I said "what skills! you b.tch!". So, sometimes it happens.

Wonderful information about the procedure. Thanks a lot for this post. Although this post was written as a response to someone else, it was my mistake to say xenophobia for York's attitude. I am so sorry for that, may be it was because of my silly frustration.

I have been admitted to PhD in Environmental Studies at York the program coordinator e-mailed few minutes ago. I am so happy! my beers are ready. the funding offer will come in the next coming week. I have also been nominated for an entrance scholarship...

There must be a program coordinator, and he/she must have an e-mail address

Who has already heard any news from York?

In my second time application, I asked the same question to the PhD coordinator. My question was like "do I have to change my Statement of Purpose since my application is now officially unsuccessful", the professor said that "no, don't change, you came close to be accepted, just make some editorial adjustments"

Have you already applied for that program? If so, you should email them about this issue. If I were u I would ask either this extention will have influence on regular admission or not.

My POI told me that the committee for environmental studies (@York) meets next week.

This week is the Reading Week in Canada. The schools will be closed. I do no think that anyone will hear any news from Canadian Universities during this week.

My friend, never give up trying. Life consists of disappointments, pessimism and decisions. If you believe that what your dream is the truth for your life, go for it. Otherwise, as Theodor Adorno says wrong life cannot be lived rightly!

Stop checking the application status everyday. The rejection is not the end of the world. I was also rejected last year and this is my second application year. I realized that the thing that kills people is to check the application website everyday. Please stop it, do whatever you want, you will learn the final decision sooner or later. I hope that you be accepted...

My dear friend, I just want to let you know that this is not precise. Sometimes, many professors may want many students but as you know there are limited spots. In this case, they have to make objective selection amond the interested candidates. On the other hand, they may have a limited number for international students. If you are an international student your files are reviewed differently in most of Canadian Universities. If a POI wants to take you, it is really good and it increases your chances but this does not mean that you will be accepted. However, in most cases, this could be that you will be admitted

Could anyone explain me why MSW is very popular in Canada?
