I just heard that York's Political Science is very difficult to be admitted for internationational students. -
Admission committee sponsors/contacted professors
foucaultmania replied to Tynan's topic in Waiting it Out
It sounds good but if that professor will be in the selection committee, your chance will be very high. Otherwise, his support may not make a sense in some cases... -
I have applied for 4 Ph.D. programs in Canada. I am an international applicant and this is my second year. Three Ph.D. programs at York: Environmental Studies, Political Science and Social and Political Thought One Ph.D. program at McMaster: Political Science

Hi everybody, Is there anyone who applied to PhD in Environmental Studies at York University. If so, have you already accepted or declined the offer? I am on the waiting list. If some domestic students will decline the offer, they may admit me. I am an international student and I wait for the final decisions of domestic students since the admitted international candidate has already accepted the offer. If you are on the waiting list of domestic students, what will be your decision if they will make you an offer?

When is the deadline for accepting York's offer?
-
I applied to PhD programs at York. I was rejected by political science and waitlisted as the top candidate by environmental studies. Most probably, the accepted student ( I know him a little bit ) will accept the offer, indeed he deserves this, then I will reapply next year since this is my dreamed university.

My friends, believe me! sometimes silence is much better than rejection...

prestige is more important. All the payments for Chicago by you will be an investment for your future and you will see the influence of that investment.

I am in the same position with the same program

Waiting it Out on Canadian Universities - 2012
foucaultmania replied to NoMoreABD's topic in Waiting it Out
Very Good. I think you do not have enough knowledge about political theory. You should learn what is equality. You are cool, York is very happy to have a PhD student like you. systematic approach, man of power. You are the best one! -

İf there were two spots most probably I woul be accepted into one of the programs that I applied since I am the top candidate on the waiting list. However, in this case, York Political Science says on the website they can admit 2 to 6 international students but they admitted only one. This is still Xenaphobia. -

I called York for PhD in political science. It is told that if you have not heard anything, this means that you are not accepted. Indeed, they accepted only 1 international student. Xenaphobia! -
How does the waiting list procedure work?

I have no idea, it should depend on the department. -

There is a rank on the waiting list. So it depends on how many studenst will decline the offers. So, you should learn your rank on the list. -
The moment when I didn't hear back, but somebody posted acceptance

This is a complex situation. Sometimes committees meet every week and they examine a limited number of files in that week. I mean they can examine 15 files every week. Then, every week 1 or 2 applicants can be accepted, therefore notification process may change from applicant to applicant... -

Waitlisted by York Environmental studies. email from program coordinator. The PhD Admissions Committee met last week and was very impressed by your file. Unfortunately, we can only admit one international PhD candidate. The number of excellent applicants made our choice a tough one. However, the committee decided to place your file on a short waiting list of three candidates. Should the admitted candidate decline our offer of admission, the Admissions Committee will consider applicants on the waiting list. In addition, Dr. Roger Keil has enthusiastically accepted to serve as your interim advisor should you be accepted into the programme. To facilitate your own planning, I wanted to pass on this information. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have further questions. All the best for now. My friends please decline your offer from York Environmental studies if you were accepted by other universities with better funding. I need this PhD program too much -

Actually, what Habermas says about mass media in the formation of public sphere in the globalization age is very important. Media's power of setting agenda limits the formation of a real publich sphere in which all interests can be represented. In a sense, media creates the public opinion and it orients the discussion and Habermas wonderfully explains this in Between Facts and Norms. Indeed, Foucault is much better in the sense of creating a theory which explains what is going on in the world. -

You are speaking very sketchy. I do not know how a person who was admitted to phd program in political science can be such brave by saying that Rawls is garbage. the formulation of veil of ignorance by Rawls is very important in the sense of preparing new constitutions and also in the sense of negotiations.... Indeed, Habermas is also very important and I believe that you did not read Between Facts and Norms. I assume that you know about Rawls and Habermas from other books not from their own books... -
