  1. I wouldn't think so. There should be a way to state that you're taking additional courses somewhere on applications though.
  2. An admission to the UIUC Industrial Engineering Ph.D. has been posted. Would that happen to be one of the people in this thread?
  3. Which school(s) have faculty members with whose research interests you have the best fit?
  4. Welp, there goes my attempt at keeping things light-hearted.
  5. I can't help it. Let A denote the event that you are not accepted to Washington or John Hopkins. Let B denote the event that you are accepted to at least one of the programs you have applied to, other than Washington or John Hopkins. I think it's safe to assume that A and B are independent events. (This is a relatively big assumption. However, anecdotal evidence supports the assumption that programs do not confer with one another for acceptance purposes.) Then, P(B|A) = P(BA)/P(A) = [P(B)P(A)]/P(A) = P(B ). So, based on the assumption that acceptance at a particular program is not affected by the acceptance outcomes at other programs, and given the information that you were not accepted to Washington or John Hopkins, your probability of being accepted to at least one of your programs you have applied to other than Washington or John Hopkins is the same is it would be without the given information. Don't freak out. You still have other places to hear back from. Try to keep in high spirits.
  6. You should also remove the phone number from the letter.
  7. I'm not sure if you should be sharing this on the forum. At any rate, it appears that it's a very positive recommendation.
  8. It means that you need to get that recommendation letter to them, ASAP.
  9. Wow! Thank you for linking this. It's interesting to see how long it took me to answer questions. I realize now that I my suspicions were correct - I got an incredibly easy quantitative exercise wrong.
  10. I'm a bit confused, Shostakovich. You mean before entering the program, or during studies? Almost every statistics program I looked at included measure theory as part of the coursework. Maybe not under that name, but definitely as a component of Real Analysis studies.
  11. I will be almost 35 when I complete my BS in Math this May. If I were to fortunate as to be accepted to a Ph.D. program for this upcoming fall, I would be 35 when I begin and around 40 when I'm done.
  12. An Ohio State University IE Ph.D. acceptance has been listed on the admissions results.
  13. Definitely a bit of TL;DR. If this is going to be detrimental to your undertaking your studies, etc. then move. If you can hack living there and the price is that good, then soldier up and enjoy the drama.
  14. I'm taking the first actuarial exam (P) in March. If I'm not accepted anywhere, I'll take the FM exam, apply for jobs or internships, and reevaluate my options.
  15. Annoyance shouldn't prevent an admission. Concerns about mental stability (to the point of questioning a candidates fitness for the program) could prevent an admission.
  16. For what it's worth, the GRE ran me $175, then I had to pay to have my scores sent to the many programs. That sucks, but it's part of the 'cost of doing business.'
  17. Having to take the GRE sucks. That said, it's another one of "those things" that must be endured. So, if you must take it, crush it!
  18. As I understand it, for quantitative field applications, the GRE Quantitative score is used less as a method of being admitted to a program as it is used to reduce the candidacy pool. From what I have seen, you would want to make sure that your score is at, or near, what would have been 800Q with the old GRE scoring method.
  19. For what it's worth, someone posted an acceptance to NJIT's Ph.D. program in the Results Search.
  20. My experimental section was pretty obvious. The first question involved making a statement about a given sequence a_n.
  21. Worked the previous night, stayed up until about 5 am typing up a Numerical Methods report, ate two McDoubles and got 168Q/167V/4.5AW
