  1. Just want to bump this thread for the new app season and ask if anyone on here has insight into housing in Austin for the fall. Where to look, approximate prices, etc.
  2. Sounds pretty bare to me. I think the point is that having a bare CV doesn't preclude you from getting great acceptances. I didn't get into anything near as awesome as Brown and Chicago, but my CV is definitely nothing to get excited about. I would never consider it a super important part of my application, especially considering how many applications listed it as optional.
  3. In related news, did anyone see the entry for Penn State that I'm assuming is NOT bfat? Can we all just pause for a quick lol? Ah, the smell of troll in the evening.
  4. Yay!!! And here you thought you were out of the game. You should feel so boss right now.
  5. Yeah, even though I have two acceptances, and both to schools that I'd be overjoyed to accept, I just don't feel comfortable even making a mental decision until I hear from more of my schools. One in particular, would have a significant chance of swaying me in its direction if the offer was right. I'm already feeling conflicted about what I thought would be a very easy decision.
  6. Congrats! Man, all of those apps are really giving you a return on your investment! Was this one where you applied to English?
  7. Wow, sebastianteddy, when it rains it pours, huh? Congratulations!
  8. Oh, shit; WHAT?? I'm definitely going to be trying not to think about it.
  9. Wow ya'll, it's been amazing morning! Congratulations!
  10. Here's what I was told after my epic fail of a 2012 season: the fact that you already have a waitlist means that you're doing something right. You still have a lot of schools to hear from, and even if by some unlucky chance you don't get in, if you're really invested in this you just have to reassess your apps, make some adjustments, and figure out what you need to do to get in next time. I have confidence you'll get in somewhere, but even if you don't, you are NOT unworthy.
  11. INTP, actually. I think it means I hate people, but not as much as INTJs. Or something like that.
  12. If you haven't been officially accepted yet, it's probably an interview/finalist weekend. Invitation to recruitment weekends rarely (if ever) go out before official acceptances.
  13. Oh, don't get me wrong, one is amazing! And I got lucky enough to get accepted to my top 2 schools. I'm just, as patientagony says, a natural born pessimist, as well a a long-term sufferer of imposter syndrome.
  14. As soon as that peep becomes a cheer, you'll have to let us know!
  15. I know, I feel bad about it but I kind of want a third acceptance myself. My first one felt like a slight inevitability because of my current positioning, and the second one still feels like a serious fluke. Ah, the need for validation!
  16. YAY!!! I'd upvote you, but for some reason I am always out of upvotes. Nothing like a little good news to make you feel better, huh?
  17. I've heard many people stress the importance of visit weekends in your decision-making process. A surprising number of people told me last year that the school that had been their first choice before visits suddenly dropped to third or fourth because of how impressed they were by some of their other schools once they'd seen them and had a chance to interact with the people there. It's almost like buying a house; you wouldn't pay for something you hadn't seen!
  18. Congrats proflorax, that's amazing! Do you know if the majority of the acceptances have gone out yet?
  19. Not a problem! I just found this stuff out today over conversation with the DGS. Don't forget though, things could always change so I wouldn't so much keep my hopes up as keep my ears open. Stranger things have happened. And really, it's not over until that rejection letter is in your inbox/mailbox.
  20. Hey Fiona, would you mind if I PM'd you for info about Austin? You too, GuateAmfeminist.
  21. Are you an MFA or a PhD applicant? Because as far as I know, all of the PhD acceptances have gone out. They apparently had to start accepting fewer people this year because of funding, so they only ended up accepting 16 instead of 20 with the intention of getting a cohort of 11.
  22. You know what the funniest part about that post is? As far as we know over in English, Yale, Rutgers, and Penn State haven't even started sending out acceptances yet...
  23. LOL, I think we might have thought that last week, too. But hey, whatever keeps morale high, right?
  24. I would also advise strongly against going for the visit if they require you to pay for it yourself, especially since you haven't received an actual offer. I know someone who went through apps last year and was invited to a "finalist weekend" at a school in Chicago with the idea that acceptance was forthcoming. A few hundred dollars later, their POI announced his retirement and they received their rejection in the mail.
  25. Looks like Michigan went out on Valentine's last year >.<
