  1. I'll PM you later tonight (don't want to leave specific details here in case it comes back to bite me). I will say though that I have enjoyed the majority of my graduate experience at Carleton, and depending on what you want to do later on in your career, it can be a great school to gain practical experience at, as well as research experience. Congrats on the Carleton acceptance!
  2. Just got my official rejection from SFU. This has not been my week.
  3. Rejected from UNB post-interview. It's really disappointing.
  4. I hate how I always get sick during my weeks off school. I have stuff that needs to get done, I don't have time for this!
  5. All I want right now is popcorn, but I don't want to risk the several days of pain that will follow from eating it. Meh, applications are causing me to stress eat like crazy!
  6. I pretty sure I messed up the only interview I've gotten so far and it's left me feeling pretty horrible, considering it's been dead silence on my other applications.
  7. Yes!!! Just got my email invite for interviews at UNB!!!
  8. Would you mind PMing me your POI?
  9. I wrote it assuming I'm rejected because interview offers have already been sent out for some programs I've applied to, and I did not receive one.
  10. I applied for a gamut of entry-level jobs with only my BSc and got plenty of interviews and interest in my degree from employers. Not all of the them were necessarily psychology-related, although my final, full-time job sort of was. I applied and interviewed for several research assistant positions(in both psychology and health sciences), positions in student recruitment with universities (I got interviews at all 3 major universities in my city, and was offered a job in one of them), career recruitment/head-hunting with HR firms (I had experience in I/O psych with was valuable), psychometrist/psychological associate jobs, and various positions working with individuals/children with developmental disabilities. I didn't even meet all the requirements in the job ads for some of the jobs I applied for, but they obviously didn't mind. The position I ended up being hired for was working as an employment support worker for adults with developmental disabilities, which was a great gig. It paid fairly decent, and also paid my phone bill and mileage (there was a lot of driving around to job sites). I also worked part-time at an educational toy store for the heck of it (also because they were pretty hostile to me leaving for a while). I know a lot of people in my program went on to work at the big oil and gas companies in various positions (which was pretty much the norm for a lot of graduates in my city, not just psych majors), or worked with children with disabilities or research. I deliberately took a year off so that I could work and save up money and gain life experience before entering grad school, and I thought that it was a good experience. I knew eventually that I would leave to pursue graduate studies, but until I got accepted I had a god job. It's all about what you make of your skills to potential employers in my opinion. Feel free to message me if you have questions!
  11. I hear you. I'm trying to distract myself by doing everything else I can (thesis, exercise, Netflix), but it's always sitting there at the back of my mind.
  12. I typically spend anywhere from $30 to $50 a week on groceries, and around $10 on eating out. I have dietary restrictions because of illness (I can only eat like 5 types of vegetables without getting very sick), so I'm pretty limited in what I can eat, so I usually just end up eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, and snacks, with some variety in dinner (usually either chicken, fish, or pasta). I shop sales, so I usually end up saving quite a bit.
  13. I've applied to both Saskatchewan and New Brunswick, and heard nothing from either of them. Last time I applied to Saskatchewan, they emailed the first week of February. I wouldn't expect to hear back from New Brunswick until mid-February because the deadline wasn't that long ago.
  14. I agree about Saskatchewan. Last time I applied (2 years ago), it took her over a month to respond to my email. The deadline for New Brunswick only just passed, so I don't think we'll be hearing back from them until mid-February. I'd like to hear back from Saskatchewan though, given that the deadline was beginning of December.
  15. I'm still waiting to hear back from all of my schools. I know SFU and UWO have sent out interview invites already, so I'm assuming those will be rejections. Radio silence from Saskatchewan though, odd since their deadline was beginning of December.
  16. I took a full year off between my undergrad and grad school (because burnout led to sickness) and during that year I: -published my undergrad thesis -went to Europe -worked part-time in retail and full-time in a job somewhat in my field (saved lots of $$) -mostly just tried to get well again in amongst all that (didn't really work) I think if you just a have a summer off, use that time to try to relax and save some money. You definitely need some decompression time before starting graduate work.
  17. I only applied to 4, which was half the amount I was originally planning to since no one in my speciality is accepting students next year. I applied to the same amount for my masters and ended up getting 2 interviews and 1 acceptance (from a school I was originally waitlisted and rejected from, no interview there), so hopefully the odds will be in my favour.
  18. I'm in a good position of having an MA (experimental psych) already, so if I don't get into a clinical program this year (second time applying to clinical already), I'm going to get a job with the federal government (research preferred, but a job is a job) or with one of the local hospitals (research or psychometry). Between undergrad and my masters I worked a part-time retail job in addition to a full time support worker job (continuing with the full time job would have been my back-up if I didn't get into grad school).
  19. I think this is what happened with my friend last year. She interviewed with a prof, that prof was willing to accept her into the clinical program, but then the committee would accept her for some reason? She was eventually accepted into the experimental program, but it was very odd all around.
  20. SFU apparently sent out interview invites on the 8th, and I've heard nothing. I wish they'd just send out rejections if you're rejected and not leave people hanging (they're apparently a secondary shortlist so I might be on that, but I'm sick of not hearing).
  21. I'd say that you did the right thing. It would be very unprofessional, in my opinion, to cancel on the participants, and I feel like the faculty would understand this (it might even make you look better in their eyes). Just my two cents.
  22. I applied to 4 clinical programs (SFU, Saskatchewan, UNB, and Western), and I'm still waiting to hear back. I figure at this point that I'm pretty much out of luck for SFU since the interviews are in less than 2 weeks and I haven't heard anything, but I'm hopeful for the other schools. I'm too chicken to actually check the results though to verify this for myself.
  23. Hahah we probably have. I know pretty much all the grad students and a good portion of the undergrads in the program. I was considering applying to UOttawa, but they only have one forensic faculty there, and tbh it's not really my research area (I might be able to swing the research that I want to do but idk). It's almost too much of a hassle to scramble an application together before next Monday (and they want it mailed in too, what year is this). That's pretty good though that you have a POI there who you have a good chance at getting in with! That will definitely help!
  24. APA and CPA are definitely the big ones within psychology in North America, but the deadlines for those have passed for this year, unfortunately. If you're more in the cognition/neuroscience realm, try the Canadian Society for Brain, Behaviour, and Cognitive Science. I know this year it's in Ottawa so there still might be a chance to submit. That's pretty much the only conference in this area that I've heard of (sorry, I'm in forensics).
  25. I'm doing a MA at Carleton, actually. My stats are still pretty good. The major difference is that I have more research experience (1 author pub and conference presentation, plus I'm currently working on 2 others to submit. I also have experience in labs in undergrad with the CSC research for my Masters). My GPA is pretty strong though in both degrees (3.90 in my Masters, 3.71 in my undergrad with the last two years being over 3.9), so here's hoping! I got interviews at 2 out of the 3 programs that I applied to for clinical the first time around (2 years ago), so I'm hoping that I'm still a strong candidate. I'm just lacking mostly in the clinical experience aspect (I used to work with adults with developmental disabilities and I did some peer support stuff in undergrad but that's pretty much it).
