  1. Their website though says that all interview invites will be sent out by January 15. It's very confusing...
  2. School: Texas A&M, Tech Tech, Drexel, University of South Florida, Ryerson Universiy, Simon Fraser University Area: Clinical psychology Rationalization: I don't even know, probably more of the "too many qualified applicants" stuff they feed us every year Comment: Honestly, I'm very upset. I put in so much work in the past year to make myself more competitive (have around 3 more publications than last year, plus 2 more conference publications), and it feels like it was for nothing Coping tactics: Sleep, binge watching various shows, working on another publication
  3. Could the people who got invites at Simon Fraser please PM me your POI's?
  4. This is my third time applying to clinical programs (my first application cycle was 2012-2013!). The first time I applied with an experimental program as a back-up, and was accepted into the experimental program. Since then, I got my Master's, have published my Master's thesis, and have a bunch other first author manuscripts under review. I've also presented at conferences and been trained in a few assessment measures. I'm not sure if I'll reapply if I don't get accepted this year, to be honest. I'll have to see how things go. If I do get my doctoral degree, I either want to work for Correctional Services, or go into academia (or both).
  5. I know it's still early yet, but it's so discouraging knowing that over half the schools I've applied to have sent out interview invites and I've received nothing. It feels like all the work I've put into improving my application over the last year means nothing.
  6. Can the person who posted the Drexel interview invite PM me your POI? Also, what did you receive the call?
  7. I've heard nothing yet either. Apparently it's done by individual POI. My friend was saying that her supervisor had already finished interviewing new students, while others hadn't even contacted applicants yet.
  8. Can you PM me your POIs at Ryerson please?
  9. Could you please PM me your POI?
  10. I'd like to know as well!
  11. I'm trying so hard not to obsess over the fact that SFU hasn't sent out interview invites yet today. They almost always send them out on the Thursday 3 weeks before the interview day like clockwork!
  12. Could the person who got the interview at Ryerson PM me their POI?
  13. 1. It should be fine to interview separately. I had to do that one year when I couldn't attend the in-person interview due to a work conflict. It was a bit more time consuming, but I feel like it didn't adversely effect me. 2. I wouldn't cancel the previously scheduled interview. Schools will understand that there will be some conflict in interview dates. Personally, I'd take the Skype interview with the second school. They should be understanding (Canadian schools are fairly chill about scheduling conflicts).
  14. I've had around 3 interviews for clinical programs before. I've gotten a lot of questions about research projects I've worked on, either as my own thesis project, or as an RA. I've also gotten asked ethical questions about situations that may pop up working as a clinician. I've found that it's varied a lot by school. Some schools have very formal interview processes with standardized questions, while others are more a discussion about your experience and whatnot. I'd be prepared to talk about the following: -Any research you've been involved with that you listed on your CV or statement of interest. Make sure you don't forget any of the details (e.g., specific variables) or outcomes. -Any data management/analysis experience that you have. -Any experience that you have that may not necessarily be related to a clinical/counselling program, but that you can talk about.
  15. I'd feel a bit better if this weren't my third time applying to clinical programs... :/
  16. Just the thought of this is stressing me out so much today.
  17. I'd like to know as well!
  18. I'm waiting on several schools, although the deadlines for U of S and UNB haven't yet passed (same with Carleton). This is going to be a long wait, although SFU usually contacts people right when they get back from break in January.
  19. My mentor is a practicing psychologist with an Ed.D. I also know a few psychological associates who do clinical work with the Master's degree, although it is more limited in scope I believe.
  20. To the person who posted the interview for Texas Tech's counselling program: could you PM your POI and whether you received the email from the grad administrator or from the POI?
  21. This is my third time applying to clinical programs. My plan B my first year was to get into an experimental program, which I did. My plan B for the next two cycles has basically been to get some sort of research job, which will hopefully be easier now that I have a Masters degree.
  22. I wanted to present at APLS, but all the research that I wanted to present will be published by then, oops.
  23. If you're in Canada, it's recommended by programs that you complete an honours thesis in order to apply to graduate programs. How many people complete one really varies by program. At my undergraduate school, getting into the honours program was super competitive. You needed at least a 3.6 to apply, you needed ot have taken certain stats courses, and they only accepted 40 people per year. Most people who don't get into an honours program usually try to complete an independent project. Canadian schools are pretty strict about having this thesis requirement. Also, degrees here are pretty much all 4 year degrees since they got rid of grade 13 in Ontario (I'm not sure about Quebec because they have CEGEP).
  24. I'm not expecting to hear back until the new year, to be honest. Canadian schools are pretty slow...the ones with application deadlines of January 15 don't even contact people until February, and one of those is a top choice. :| I hate the waiting game.
