Had an excellent phone conversation with my POI at DU-Iliff last night. I am waiting on the final, official offer -- but things are looking quite good.

Thought I'd resurrect the thread, as my wife and I are considering an offer from Denver University-Iliff.

Anyone else ever wonder if POIs and/or admission committees ever lurk on GradCafe?

I get what the degree is, I just don't understand why the department would offer it as a ThD rather than, say, just a PhD in theology/New Testament/Hebrew Bible, etc.

What is the point of offering a ThD, then? I don't get it.

Let's talk about how stupid the writing portion of the test is. "Here's a stupid issue that has two obvious sides. Pick one, argue it, and craft a bullshit empire for the next thirty minutes."

Why is it that I've heard back from every program except the one that had the earliest application deadline? Get your crap together, DU-Iliff.

About a month and a half ago I brewed my first batch of homebrew beer. It was a Pale Ale kit that I beefed up considerably. Anyway, I decided I'd call it "Ph.D. Pale Ale" and that I'd drink it, in either joy or sorrow, when my results started coming back. My friends and I aren't all out of the woods yet, but damn it is this beer good.

It's kind of fun to see the cross section of the pious and the impious gathered here in the Religion section of Grad Cafe. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with either (I'll leave that up to God). It's just interesting that, in the same thread, we've got people threatening to go on a nihilistic, Fear & Loathing-esque bender, as well as people saying they'll thank God for the rejection. What a strange little community we have here.

Anyone want to claim that new Baylor Theology PhD acceptance?

If the funding packages don't come through for my two admittances, here's my plan: 1. Form personality cult 2. Start a mega church 3. ??????????? 4. Profit! Seriously, though, I'll probably either apply for a ThM/STM and re-apply next year, or I'll just pack it in and become a hospital chaplain/sometimes preaching minister. I've considered that career path in the past and I don't think it would be unfulfilling.

Summer was a good season for me to start contacting POI's, for what it's worth.
