  1. What I interpreted references as were the citations at the end, which typically accompany any written work. I referred to a few studies in mine, but I did not include the citation.
  2. Most of the programs I looked at (maybe Quant psych is different) just took the higher of the scores by section.
  3. Adcoms won't even see this semester's grades before they made their decision. Assuming you have Dec deadlines
  4. Yes
  5. I believe that means you need to submit your application early in order to get those references in on time.
  6. I think the easiest way to add some flexibility to the word limit is to nix the reference list.
  7. Just finished my apps. Now, I just have to distract myself with projects, until I hear some news.
  8. Honestly, I've found the opposite to be the case. In my department, last year our most junior prof got 3 new graduate students, and he's slated to get at least another this year.
  9. I gave all my recommenders gifts. They weren't big or flashy. Just $20 galilean thermometers. I doubt that it would influence them. However, I don't believe I would have if I had had to mail them.
  10. Not as a career. My interests are firmly grounded in psychology. Not a big bio person. I looked into it, but only a few methods really appealed to me. I'm looking into taking a biostats training course in epidemiology this summer.
  11. I would include such a presentation. If you already have a section for presentations, I would just include it there with something that indicates that it's forthcoming. I have a planned workshop that I included on my CV. See below. Workshops Summer Institute for Training in Biostatistics: Disease and Genetic Epidemiology Washington University in St. Louis PLANNED June 2013
  12. I included references on a separate final page of my cv.
  13. Is there a word count maximum?
  14. My profile is pretty similar to yours, so I suspect that you'll be in really good shape for quant psych programs. (They'll fight over you.)
  15. No problem. I like to think that the relationships are comparable. Plus, as a bonus, because quant psych is less competitive than pure stats, your problem grade won't hurt your chances of admission too badly for PhDs.
  16. I would ask Peter Bentler, if you're still around UCLA campus. He was really helpful for my quanty questions. Or maybe I don't get what you're asking. Are you asking if the relationship between quant psych and psychology is comparable to the relationship between biostats and biology? Or are you asking whether quant psych has it's own flavor of methodology?
  17. I'd look at the ones affiliated with nicely ranked graduate psychology departments. I do know that William and Mary's program is quite good as is Wake Forest's.
  18. It doesn't close as many doors as you think (mind you I'm biased). Outside of academia there are lots of quant psych jobs for testing, actuary work, and market research. Plus you can work as a stats consultant for medical schools, business schools, and universities. (I think Chicago is looking for someone at the moment). I also have an econ major, so I've been moonlighting in the business world. Anyway, it depends on what you want to do.
  19. Have you thought about quantitative psychology?
  20. I have two majors (in economics and psychology). I have no desire to pursue economics in my graduate education. My econ degree has been viewed very favorably in my application process so far. I'm applying to quantitative psych. I believe that it demonstrates that I'm mathy, which in quant psych is a plus. I was asked why I wasn't looking at programs in decision making. I think that as long as you can explain why you don't want to pursue your other degree, it won't hurt you.
  21. I've worked in two labs. I only mentioned my work in my more recent lab. However, my SOP had to be under 700 words for a handful of my schools. I did include my other lab in my precut SOP. If I were you, I'd only include lab work that was relevant to my research interests or taught me a desirable skill.
  22. How has " it[] taken the Web by storm (in a very negative way)" ? It seems like par for the course. I usually run into a post doc or two when I'm in on my late night lab sessions. Haven't seen too many profs on the weekends, but I can usually get ahold of them easily via email. Mine like to work from home.
  23. For order in the applications, I think I stuck with alphabetical. I doubt that rec order matters. On my CV, I just listed my profs by department seniority, even though I've done most of my collaborating with the assistant prof (he's listed third).
  24. I think it isn't necessary IF you're allowed to submit a CV. Davis doesn't allow you to.
  25. I had a similar angle with my UCLA application. There's a social psych prof there, whose work on relationships is fabulous. I made sure to distinguish between profs I'd like to mentor me and profs I'd like to collaborate with. I don't want a social psych PhD, so I mentioned that I wanted to pursue a PhD in quantitative methods twice.
