  1. I hope to do the same... couldn't make for the ntl. this year, but am striving for next. (...it'll be a lot easier if I'm living in South Bend at the time instead of Colorado. )
  2. I'll be there; wondering if I might see anyone else there...
  3. lol... yeah, I let them know about that little quirk sometime last year. *Shrug* What program(s) are you applying to?
  4. ...Anybody thinking about giving ND a call? I'm gettin' there...
  5. Down Home
  6. You are correct. And... really? That's good to hear. In my campus visit, the MTS director said there wasn't much in the way of text criticism except for the occasional seminar, but that was from the MTS perspective, I s'pose. In a couple classes I sat in on, I could see how there still might be a lot of t-c learning available through various classes - just no classes specifically on t-c. As for the more secular/critical examination of scripture from the European side, that makes sense. My Greek prof. went to Leiden and said that it was incredibly scholarly, incredibly secular, and sometimes incredibly rough. But I'm fine with that. While a devout, full-fledged believer, myself, I certainly don't mind mixing it up w/ minds opposed to mine in all areas and perspectives. Sharpens the mind and brings understanding. But... I don't think moving to Europe's in the cards at the moment. ...Ph.D, maybe?
  7. Sorry I wasn't more clear about this! There's a helpful little page here at thegradcafe where students can post their acceptance/rejection from different schools and programs - http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php. You can look through the postings according to school, date, etc. There's a lot of schools that haven't sent letters yet. I'm still waiting to hear from mine and when I go to the page, I can see that no one else has posted that they've heard from the school yet. When people start posting a bunch of acceptances or rejections and I still haven't heard anything... then I'll start to worry.
  8. I've spent a lot of time with languages, starting w/ two years of Greek (Koine) in high school. Since then, I've been continually and steadily growing in languages and text criticism. This is something I'd also really like to get into further, but unfortunately does not appear to be a strong suit at my first choice school. What schools are at the top of the heap when it comes to text criticism?
  9. Last year, it looks like the MTS notifications went out on the 8th, being the second Thursday of March. Soon, regardless... Wondering about the M.A. in Early Christian Studies, though...
  10. Right on! Congratulations!!
  11. Nowhere else this time. All eggs placed securely in one basket. ND has the focus that most comprehensively suits my interests and so I focused on ND... for the time being. If not accepted, I'll apply to a school locally (Denver Sem.) who accepts apps for another few months. I just wanted to see what might happen here first before I spend another $75 on app. fees. I may hold off a year, though, and try again next year while applying to others, but we'll see.
  12. I'm not!! I'm on this stinkin site all the time, trying to see if others applying to the same program have received any news!
  13. At the beginning of my Jr. year (undergrad), the question quickly came up: 'What next?' I had no plans for a career or anything - I was just studying what I loved. Since the end was near and I so dearly love learning, I figured I'd check out graduate school. One thing led to another and some things looked promising, so I moved forward with the process... still not knowing what I wanted to do! But it was really interesting to me when I found that the process actually refined and honed my vision of what I wanted to do, both in my education and for a career. It wasn't until I'd already gone through much of the process, including the GRE, that I really discovered what I wanted to do. The application process helped me refine this and focus on specifics. It sort of winnowed away the chaff and helped me discover the desire that had been there all along.
  14. I'm sure this place'll blow up when we hear. Btw... what's your order of preference in all the schools you have listed? Or are they already in order?
  15. Lawn Chair.
  16. 1) I wish I would have discovered this site sooner in the process. 2) Wish I would've left a little time at the end of my GRE essays for better proofreading. 3) Should have paid the $55 to have the essays re-evaluated (4.5)
  17. Lite Brite.
  18. I also cheated and voted for two - Funding and Research. I just can't afford to go to school w/o significant funding, so that's just the way it is. But aside from that, my goal for school is to feed and develop my research interests... I couldn't imagine there being a more significant factor for making a decision.
  19. I also second the 'two day' idea, but leave yourself some good time to check out the area and for looking at housing (if you are). My campus visit was two days and it gave me a great idea of what the school was like and whether it was a good fit or not. But I definitely needed more time to look at housing options. I would recommend a two-day campus visit, but three days overall if you can swing it.
  20. Sorry to hear that, SB. I'm just a lurker here, reading much more than I post, but I know how much you wanted it (I'm the same way w/ ND). Glad you still have options and a great outlook. Well done.
  21. BINGO. It all depends on the school. Check the acceptance page and see how many have already posted acceptances or rejections from the school (and program) of your choice.
  22. Fast Times...
  23. Name: Middle name = Tobias; 42 = HHGTTG. If you know it, you know it. Avatar: Coat of Arms in Hallbar Tower, Scotland, owned by Clan Lockhart since 1681.
  24. Sorry... got my Mondays confused (they just move so fast now that we're waiting on decisions!). The Ph.D decisions were to go out this past Monday, the 4th. *Rolls eyes at self*
  25. That's what I was thinking.... I'm kinda expecting next week though. Aren't the ND Ph.D notifications going out Monday? I'd expect that us lowly MTS/MA applicants would hear back after them...
