Ufffdaaa
Not a lit PhD or in the South, but... The deadline for North Dakota State's PhD in Rhetoric, Writing, and Culture is February 1st. It's also the same for their MA program (lit or composition). They fund their students (including MA) and have a pretty high acceptance rate, fyi. Also, they have a pretty good tenure-track placement rate for recent PhDs. TakeruK
Maybe Canadian schools? I remember seeing mid Feb and even March 1 deadlines in Canada when I applied (a different field, but Canadian school timelines are generally different). Cotton Joe
I think NC State's deadline is Feb 1. https://english.chass.ncsu.edu/graduate/ma/admission_info.php Their admissions page says "February 1 to be considered for teaching assistantships; June 15 for admission only." That deadline's actually only for their MA in English. Still a Feb. 1 date if you're interested in terminal MA.
