JBA,

All the best in your interview. Is it a recorded interview or live online?

Expand

They are requesting a phone number if you don't use Team. From my understanding, it will be like any UN Job Competency Based interview. I don't know if you ever did one before... once you apply for a job at the UN, you go through a written exam, and if you pass it you go for this interview. Usually, the panel is composed of 3 persons (1 HR, 1 Technical/ expert on your field, 1 The manager of the section/office depending of your level). It last 45 min to 1h and they ask you 1 question about motivation purpose and 3 questions on specific competency. You have to answer by giving a concrete example of your previous experience when you have to use it and how did it go...the outcome and what you could have done better.

Hope this helps

JBA,

Thanks. This is insightful. We hope that we will pass the French language test. It was not easy though.

The language test was done by Devex through Language Test International LTI. My Test status for the test shows COMPLETED. I don't know what does this mean.

from my understanding, it's a confirmation that you did the test not that you passed it yet... what about the WFP recruitment web site what is your status?

For example mine is "Congratulations, you have passed through to the interview phase" (that was for the language interview since I didn't have to do it, and was validated). I am now waiting to do the competency based interview.

Cheers!

JBA, congratulations and all the best in your CBI. Status still shows that I will partake assessment phase. Dates only changed. Had applied for P4, P3 and P2. Initially, they had changed the date status for P4 and P2 and after a week, they changed  date status for P3 as well. Seems they do evaluations for each position separately and exercise is ongoing.

Hello all, I am going through the process as well and I am wondering if you have info that WFP uses its pools or not ? anyone who has previous experience or heard from other people how it works with WFP. I heard that UNDP and UNHCR, they do not call at all their pools, I do not know what is the purpose ! please share any info on this, at least we have an idea about the outcome of this process.

At what stage are you and in which field? There is someone in this forum who confirmed of joining WFP through FIT pool.  Watched also a WFP video on Facebook where there were interviewing staff who joined through FIT Pool.

If you go through this chat you will notice that some are asking the same question, they made it to get in the pool but after 8 months or more no call from WFP. Again A pool is not mandatory to use all the participants inside... it's to have some options ready to be called in case of something comes up. the process allows them to not go through the full process of recruitment again but just propose the candidate to the CO.

but this becomes unfair because its a long process for some of us, i have been in the pool since December until date i have not been contacted, why spend all these resources and time just to not hire people.

By us applying for the FIT pool shows we actually want to work with them.

I pray and hope i get contacted soon, because the wait is hard

Hey,

I also received an invitation for CBI, engineer P2. I did not have to take the language test as well. Mine will be on 13th.

Looks like you know how they conduct their interviews. Could you give more details and guidance that can help as I prepare for the interview?

Good luck with your interview, wish you all the best.

Thanks

All the best. I did a language test on 12th August, and they updated the status date on 15th for only P2. Had applied P2,P3 & P4. Seems they started to interview those who were not subjected to language test.

How did it go? Please share your experience. Am interested to know. I Am waiting for the CBI invitation after the language test.  It seems they started with a group who didn't go through a language test.

Hello! Sorry for the late reply I was on a field mission for work so I did not have much good Internet access! I didn't do it yet as they postponed it for the 8th coming Friday.

For sure the ones that didn't have to do the language step have one step less on the process to do it's faster for them.

I am a Construction Engineer so I don't know if it changes something in the convocation date...

Friday after CBI I will share my experience!

So to prepare for the interview...

First, you need to know the competency required for the job that you are applying for, unfortunately, WFP is not like UNICEF or UNOPS so they don't have a Competency Framework document already prepared.

UNOPS competencies are: Agility, Effective communication, Integrity & Inclusion, Partnering, Result Orientation, Solution Focused, and Strategic Perspective (I don't find the link to share right now)

UNICEF competencies are: Builds and maintains partnerships, Demonstrates self-awareness
and ethical awareness, Drive to achieve results for impact, Innovates and embraces change, Manages ambiguity and complexity, Thinks and acts strategically, Works collaboratively with others, Nurtures, leads and manages people (UNICEF's_Competency_Framework.pdf)

So depending on the level that you apply there are some more in-depth characteristics required for each of them (like level)

You can also find UNDP competencies framework on the internet. As you might have noticed, the competencies are almost the same between agencies so you can easily extrapolate for WFP too 😉

For any UN CBI you need to build your examples on those competencies mentioned above. So you need to prepare several examples, of different situations that could highlight the competency that you will be asked for. not more than 3 competencies in general during the interview...

Now for WFP you can use the method S.T.A.R to frame your example:

Situation (S): Describe the situation or context in which the experience or challenge occurred. This sets the stage for your response and provides the interviewer with background information.

Task (T): Explain the specific task or goal you were assigned or faced in that situation. What were you expected to achieve or accomplish?

Action (A): Detail the actions you took to address the situation or accomplish the task. Be specific about the steps you took, your role, and your responsibilities. This is often the most critical part of your response, as it showcases your skills and competencies.

Result (R): Discuss the outcomes or results of your actions. What happened as a result of your efforts? Use quantifiable data if possible to highlight the impact of your actions.

You can also prepare for each example the "what you could have done differently?" That is the favorite question that would come after you finish explaining your example...

Let's do the extra mile, don't use always the same position/work for all the competencies try to diversify different experiences! the goal is to show that you have the competencies but also that you have a lot of experience in different settings 9geographic, work-wise etc)

I hope this helps, if I can provide more information don't hesitate to ask I will try my best to reply :-))
