slp2121 Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 This week a couple of the schools I applied to for their graduate programs contacted me to set up interviews. I've only ever interviewed for jobs, not to be admitted into schools, so I'm not really sure what to expect and am really nervous. I know every school will do it differently, but what should I expect? Also, what kind of questions do they typically ask? I'm really bad with interviews in general and am really stressing out so anything helps!
Arcanelady27 Posted February 11, 2019 Posted February 11, 2019 I went on an interview for grad school. One of the questions the admissions committee asked was why did you choose this profession? Another question that was asked was tell me about yourself? I found this question a little odd, but I was asked what is the latest book you have read?
Toya Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I was invited for an interview as well. They asked... Who do you admire and why? Tell me an error of improvement you would like to work on in grad school? Ugh, I can't remember the last one!
jackiesiebes Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I am preparing for interviews as well! I was warned that one school I am applying to puts you in a room and has you work on a group project while recording you. This sounds extremely intimidating, but is something to look out for!
FutureSLP19 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 I have two interviews coming up and one is a pre-recorded video submission answering these questions: 1) Tell me about a time you faced an obstacle. Describe how you addressed it. What was the outcome? 2) How do you respond to feedback? When presented with information you don't understand, how do you approach figuring out what is needed for you to gain clarity? 3) Why do you want to do your graduate program at [insert school]? My second interview is where I did my undergrad and they do group interviews kind of like speed-dating. I know last year they asked questions like what are your strengths and weaknesses, what was your biggest challenge in completing your undergrad, what accomplishment are you most proud of, etc. They also had one everyone in the group session answer one question together at the end to assess teamwork.

What school is this? I know Sacred Heart said they do a group part in their interview.
slp2121 Posted February 15, 2019 Author Posted February 15, 2019 Thank you all for your responses! They make me feel a bit better and more prepared Wish me luck as I have back to back interviews 3 days in a row next week!
lasmith Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 I'm prepping for interviews as well. There is this one site that has mock interview questions. I think they're the same or similar for every school but if you have friend you can go through them together and work on a good answer. https://www.mockquestions.com/graduateschool/Loma+Linda+University/Speech+Pathology/page4/ (sorry the link is for Loma Linda that's where I have my interview but when I was helping my friend get ready for her NYMC interview she had this website pulled up for NYMC and it had the same questions. You could also search it for your school. I think this is a great tool to prep even if you aren't asked the same questions.) bco6515 1

I'm assuming you're talking about Baldwin Wallace since you're in Ohio. I did this and it's really not bad. Nothing to stress about! jackiesiebes 1
BioCook Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 One of my undergraduate professors told me to look up example interview questions for medical school. There’s a bunch of lists online! I changed stuff that weren’t relevant to SLP, but it will keep you ahead of the game. One random question I’ve heard asked it “what was the most recent article you’ve read” so be prepared for random questions like that! Best of luck
