Adelaide9216 Posted June 29, 2019 Posted June 29, 2019 Hello, anyone applying to this year's cycle? Does anyone know if the contest will open in September? I believe last year it was in December but it was exceptional.
Adelaide9216 Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 Okay, so I've been informed that the contest will probably open in September, although not confirmed 100%.
vancouverrunner Posted August 28, 2019 Posted August 28, 2019 Good luck! Longterm lurker on Canadian scholarships. Masters student right now (CIHR CGS M funded). Will apply for Trudeau/Vanier next year for doctoral studies! Best of luck and appreciate any tips or learnings alogn the way. Adelaide9216 1
Adelaide9216 Posted September 21, 2019 Author Posted September 21, 2019 Any news? It appears the contest has not opened yet...
Adelaide9216 Posted September 28, 2019 Author Posted September 28, 2019 Hopefully on Monday (last day of September). We'll see. Who's applying?
Adelaide9216 Posted October 9, 2019 Author Posted October 9, 2019 November 15th, 2019 is the launch date of the contest, just saw it on the website.
Adelaide9216 Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 One of my referres has little time. So I wrote one of the reference letters myself, from A to Z. It's hard to self-praise in the third person! Urghhh
Adelaide9216 Posted November 9, 2019 Author Posted November 9, 2019 Working on my research proposal. Significantly different from last years' application for other scholarships I could not just do copy-paste. It's a tough process. I hope it'll be worth it.
time_consume_me Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 I've always been curious about this award. Is it usually public policy/sociology fields that get them -- that's the image I have of it in my head. Good luck to all applicants!

I don't think I'll get this award, but I am going to try anyways. Yes, there's a public policy incline to the research projects they fund! They want research that will have impact on society and outside of academia. Thanks for the good luck Edited November 9, 2019 by Adelaide9216
Adelaide9216 Posted November 15, 2019 Author Posted November 15, 2019 I am quite dissapointed by this year's theme. The cycle of leadership training this year has "Technology and ethics" as a theme, in relation to health care, bioethics and artificial intelligence. My work does not relate to that theme. But it does relate to one of the main themes of the Foundation. I wonder if this will make me disqualify if I want to apply to Trudeau. Wow.
Adelaide9216 Posted November 24, 2019 Author Posted November 24, 2019 They said it's okay if my topic does not relate to that theme. I still have technical issues (one extra referree that needs to be deleted and for some reason, I have two applications drafts in the portal...) They are not responding back, I hope it won't affect my ability to apply.

But the Foundation told me that your doctoral work has to be linked to one of the four main themes. You do not need to have expertise in Technology and Ethics.

And it seems to be the most important one because we're allowed more space to write it than the other sections.

DataCrusader Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) Seems like a lot more of a focus on who you are (like the longer personal statement and questionnaire) than on what your research is about (or past research evidence) Edited December 19, 2019 by DataCrusader

Adelaide9216 Posted January 7, 2020 Author Posted January 7, 2020 So my internal deadline was today. Fingers crossed. I need to let go now.
