lily_slp
Hi guys!! I'm applying to speech pathology grad programs this upcoming semester and I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips and advice (on GRE scores, interview process/popular questions asked, resume tips, etc.) I'm applying to like 12 schools and just thinking about the application process is making me panic, haha. Thank you!! Edited July 26, 2019 by lily_slp
bibliophile222
Get started as early as possible, ESPECIALLY asking your LOR writers. I waited too long and had wicked anxiety waiting for them to submit their letters. One person actually submitted a couple weeks late. Fortunately it didn't affect my application, since it was still winter break and they weren't reviewing apps yet, but it was kind of horrible! There are only so many polite follow-up emails you can send (and have ignored) without going kind of nuts. I would ask at least two months before the deadline to be safe. lily_slp and slptobe!
slptobe!
I would say start studying for the gre early, especially for me I had to review a lot of simple math concepts because I hadn't taken math since my freshman year of undergrad. And as mentioned, definitely ask LOR's early. And just chip away at everything a little at a time. Don't pressure yourself to do it all at once, if you start early and spread it out, procrastination level is less and it doesn't feel as daunting of a task I think. lily_slp
lily_slp
Thank you guys for the great tips!! My main concern, honestly, is the math portion of the GRE. ??
hopefulfuturespeechie
I wish I had done the GRE while it was still summer rather than doing it while taking classes. I would suggest taking this last month and really prepping for it. lily_slp and bibliophile222 1
jsieges
Im applying to 11 schools currently. I'm stuck on starting my essays. If you would like to exchange emails and read over each others essays just let me know!
laura120
For interviews, most questions are directed towards why you chose this profession and where you want to take it. This includes knowing your research about the schools you're applying to and knowing what you can bring to the program. My GRE's were below average because I didn't study as much as I should have but my interview was the deciding factor for my admission for the school I'm attending this fall. Best advice is to look up sample questions and research the programs so you're ready to answer questions. Good luck! lily_slp
lily_slp
@laura120 See Northeastern is one of the schools I'm applying to, but I'm scared if I get a below avg. math score on the GRE, I won't get accepted!! Also, thank you for sharing :)) Edited August 4, 2019 by lily_slp
lily_slp
@hopefulfuturespeechie As soon as I get home from my internship, I'm going to find a tutor for the math GRE, definitely!! Thank you :))
