I am also losing my mind over these applications. I applied to nine schools, received one rejection today and can't help but obsess over what I might have been able to do better. Should I have been in

I got accepted at Penn last year and I believe all of the people who are eventually accepted get interviewed. However, each individual POI sets up the interviews and some take more time to do it than

For everyone looking at UCLA seriously, this is a tweet about our stipends.  Actually if you're looking at any of the UCs, this website is an excellent resource to consider. The housing struggle

Does Chicago send out rejections in waves?

Hi, I think if you haven't received a rejection yet, you might be under consideration for their MAPSS program? I assume that since they are figuring out the funding for MAPSS (people get 1/3, 1/2 and full scholarships), it probably takes more time. Not 100% sure but hope this helps!

Thanks! That was helpful! Maybe the same thing is happening with NYU too?

Has anyone heard anything from CSU Chico? My portal hasn’t updated from the “application is pending review”. Trying to stay positive but with past gradcafe updaters showing acceptances in March and March being halfway over... Safe to say my positive thinking is becoming less positive :(

Super late reply but I haven't heard anything from Chico yet. I think they like to push it to the very final days of March.

Anybody want to brag about where they got in?

Or more than just brag - what about folks who are passionate, happy, thankful, or resilient, good or bad?? I think we all deserve space to feel however we do after this hell of an application process.

For me, I applied to 10 places, and got rejected from every single one except my perfect match, which was my 7th decision back.

I am over the moon to somehow end up at the best place for me feat. collegial faculty, an interdisciplinary department, and a cohort which is queer/trans like me and respects my non-binary pronouns. ❤️

Congrats!

I also received two rejections, back-to-back, very early in the season. I only applied to four places so that scared me. Then I got into my 2nd choice, and a month later (pushing RIGHT up to the 4/15 deadline), got into my top choice!

A professor I know, when I told him I was accepted, said "it's nice to know it's not just in your head, isn't it?" and I think that sums up a lot of how I feel. I thought I would be a good applicant, then I started questioning it, and now I'm happy to realize other people also think I'd be good in grad school. It's very affirming.

Now to figure out housing, with my state on lockdown, but luckily a lot can be done over the internet!

Hello! Long time lurker. I applied directly from undergrad to PhD programs and while I got rejected from all of them, I did gain acceptance into the University of Chicago’s MAPSS.  The University of Virginia was looking promising but they waitlisted need due to uncertainty of available mentors and then funding was decreased after the pandemic situation worsened. I was initially crushed but MAPSS offered full-tuition coverage and it was my first option for PhD so I decided to still attend!
