The email is a notification that the results are posted in the portal. The status remains the same (I just checked). The only thing that will change when the results are ready is that you will be able to click on visualiser. 6 days till my mental breakdown or not then ?? nomadartist and lleto 2

Who knows what happens to the money. Oh well. It seems that each funding agency in Canada has a particular way of distribution, which compared to the US for instance, in many ways functions very well. However, in other ways it lets down the applicants. I hope everyone is managing to keep a healthy level of sanity and serenity these days! Adelaide9216 and McGillDCL 2
nomadartist Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Hey all! With only 3 days to go, I have found myself actually to have a different (relaxed) attitude toward the whole waiting game compared to couple of weeks ago. It is similar to the calm before the storm; aka, the possible breakdown! :)) I wanted to ask you for some tips on how to deal with the anxiety of waiting out and the possible depression that may soon follow in case of rejection! This is my first year of applying to FRQSC–although I read many awarded grants as sample– and I have heard that it is a difficult grant to get, compared to SSHRC. Is that correct? I am international student and will not even be able to apply to SSHRC, but just curious to know. I am also curious to know how do they distribute the funds to each group considering that each applicant's committee is based at their university.
SNH Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I don't know if it's harder than SSHRC. I heard SSHRC is much more competitive to get, considering it's a national and FRQ is provincial...I'm freaking out. How are you managing to stay calm???? nomadartist 1

I see, that makes sense regarding the national vs provincial. Some folks at Concordia had given me the impression that FRQ is picky about what projects they fund especially in arts and culture section and they have certain priorities in terms of areas and topics. It has been hard to distract myself quite frankly. I take it day by day, partly working on my doctoral project, partly working on some proposals for some open calls, and mainly doing a lot of baking: chocolate soothes the pain :))
SNH Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 @nomadartist I'm glad your're able to entertain yourself. I can't think of anything but the results.. ughhh the wait is killing me. but all the best and I hope we both get it!! That would be so so amazing. I didn't even apply to SSHRC so my only hope is FRQSC. By the way, do you know which subjects they prioritize by any chance?

As for going crazy, the confinement is making me go crazy not the wait ?

I can only make assumptions in visual and media studies, because that is my field and am in touch with other friends who are in film studies. Comparative projects between France and Quebec and 'Francophonie' cultural studies across different discourses seem to have some more leverage. But again these are minor asssumptions and one can never say anything for certain. Edited April 27, 2020 by nomadartist

ponteix Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Do you guys think it will be at midnight tomorrow night?

Remember, at the end of the day these awards are quite arbitrary– selection processes are almost impossible to be objectively characterized and its all about the committee as well as the pool of applicants each year. I guess we are all in certain fields in which we will continue to apply for grants in our careers, some of which will go through and some of which will not! If we get it, great. If not, we will only write better grants next year. Now I need my bottle of wine! McGillDCL 1

And we should all know that regardless of the results, our researches are valuable to us and there is absolutely no objectivity in the process & as much as they try to be "fair" , there is a bit of luck involved as well. Even though, I don't really believe in luck, I think who reads the applications affects the results. McGillDCL and nomadartist 2
nomadartist Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Hi everyone, I have baked two cakes already today and counting until the results are out! I have a question: If one doesn't see the change on their portal after midnight, does it mean that it has not been accepted? Can someone verify this? lleto 1

I also applied to SSHRC and they are going to begin releasing results tomorrow as well. I can't wait until this is over! I don't think it means anything if your results aren't ready at midnight. On their website, it says that if your name is on the list (I assume the results list, which I think will be posted tomorrow) and haven't received your letter in the portal after a few days to contact them.

Yes, that does look like the link to the list. If your name isn't on it, I assume that you didn't get it. However, don't panic if you don't see it now, our competition is 2021. The 2020 is last year (I think it is!)
