Hey everyone! I thought I would update, I just received an admission offer for the UofA/ Alberta MPH in Health Promotion (On-Campus)! The email came in at 5pm MST to check my GSMS portal. I've heard of someone else also getting in to Health Promotion this afternoon as well. Good luck to you all with your schools!

So sorry to hear! Hoping you hear good news from the others schools you applied to! If you don't mind me asking, what were your stats (GPA etc.) + experiences that you applied to McGill with?

Thanks!! Feeling a lil hopeless since York also rejected me today lol how brutal. So I have around a 3.4 and I had 2 years of experience working w paraplegic/autistic kids and I currently work for an agency that supports low-income communities, and I also volunteer w an organisation that focuses on healthcare equity. I don’t think I emphasised the little research experience I had enough and my grades aren’t the best so :/// but we move styll lol

What is a 3.4 in percentage? Google said 89~ and if yes that's so depressing that's considered 'not the best' for grades LOL. My GPA is 4.15 on 4.3 and now I'm feeling like I'm doomed. LOL.

Thank you!

I'm a domestic student . I have a 4.0 GPA. I had two volunteer experiences that I mentioned in my letter, a food bank and a mobility/socializing program for seniors in a hospital (so neither were directly related to PH but I think I spun them enough). I'm finishing my BA in Sociology. I also have an intercultural/international certificate and some language/intercultural experience that may have been relevant (or not!). I had a pretty good LOI, I had one of my references and another student look over it. I had one really strong reference and one that was...fine enough.

Which specialization did you apply to?

Who did you get as references if you don't mind me asking? Also, what other schools and programs did you apply to?

I got my boss and one of my old professors to do them for me. My boss sent me her reference letter and it was SO good so I know that wasn’t the problem. I’m now waiting for Western, Uoft, and UBC.

Has anyone heard any good news from McGill yet? I applied for their non-thesis Public Health program and it's still showing in review... I'm so nervous right now ?

I applied in Epidemiology, and I'm an international student..

The U of A seems to send out decisions specialization by specialization, and I think Health Promotion came before Epidemiology last year too, so don't stress yet!

I think if you maybe have some experience in social organizations or working with people, or some work with data or numbers, and certainly other areas too, it counts for something! Don't count yourself out already! This degree is meant to include some interdisciplinary backgrounds. And I had no research experience at all!

Is anyone else waiting on MUN?! My application still just says Completed?

Mine says the same thing. I submitted my application on December 31, 2020 and completed my document submission on January 14, 2021.
