Different field and like I said certainly pedigreed academics with tons of research but not the name dropping Nobel prize types or ones who could just pick up the phone etc etc..the sense I got was that good recos (similar to a good GMAT) helped in screening/ shortlisting (or avoiding rejection) but the SOP, background, writing samples, familiarity/ networking and obviously research fit drove the selection. But I could be wrong..

I have a slightly different PoV. I think GMAT/background/SoP are the screening criteria. After that it's just LoR/familarity and writing samples

I would respond to each of you who has replied to me, but I don't want to overload the board. But I do want to say a sincere THANK YOU to each of you who has provided some feedback and encouragement. In such a competitive field, I think it's really beautiful that so many here are team-oriented, encouraging, and supportive of one another!

Congrats to all of you who have received so many interviews and acceptances!

I applied to Management/OB/Micro programs at

  • Harvard,
  • Duke,
  • Wharton,
  • UNC-Chapel Hill, and
  • University of Georgia.

I haven't received any interviews at this point, so I'm assuming it's rejections all around. I've been out of school for a decade now and don't really have anyone to mentor me through this process. I scored well on the GMAT this summer (760) and spent hours upon hours researching POIs and writing my SOPs. As I consider trying again next year, I'm at a loss for what I could do differently to improve my candidacy. To those of you who are seeing success, what do you attribute it to the most? Do y'all have any advice for trying again in the future?

Hi! I'm in a similar boat but without your incredible gmat score :). I applied to Kellogg, Yale, Wisconsin and Purdue. I haven't heard anything back either so I'm assuming rejections all around.

If it's any consolation, I've worked in management for 10 years in the investment industry and that doesn't seem to hold much water on these apps. As someone commented earlier, having been out of school and working in industry for too long almost seems to hurt your application. I'll send you a DM to connect and maybe we can support each other in the app process next cycle. Glad to find a fellow 'senior citizen' on this thread!

If anyone is reading this and has any info on Yale, Wisconsin or Purdue's Management/OB programs, please post!

I also applied to Yale SOM for OB, but haven't heard anything yet. I have heard rumors that they are not accepting students this year, but I am unsure of whether or not this is true.

me too...haha...expected it tho....! Have you heard any good news from other schools? Fingers crossed!

None. Though I am in a different position. I am currently in a PhD program and transferring is not looked upon highly (programs that admitted me in 2019 told me they wouldn't even consider me now). I initially applied to 20 programs and got into 7. Due to personal reasons I chose one based on geography. I am no longer constrained by those reasons and thought I would try again. Looks like I will strike out this time.

Same here! Bummer. But maybe they didn't end up taking students in O&M this year? Fingers crossed for better news from other schools!

Hello everyone,

Could you guys please inform me about UTD’s reputation as a b-school? I see on their rankings that they are often ranked high — sometimes even in the top 10s, do people generally see it as a good b-school? Thanks in advance!

Formerly taught at Yale SoM, the PhD track in business is notoriously tough generally speaking, and especially so at Yale. They are pretty neutral by conscription about backgrounds in investment as SoM was really the only Ivy b-school without an emphasis on finance/investment for a very long time, and in fact, was only within the last 35 years did it actually  have a MBA program.  If I’m correct they have north of 300 plus applicants for roughly made a dozen (could be a couple more) admissions.

UTD has a good reputation. Depends on your goal. If you have publications and an R1 degree you will get interviews at R1 schools. UTD just placed students at Iowa and Notre Dame. Notre Dame is almost as good as it gets but if you want an Ivy job you better go to that caliber of a program. Check out the Management PhD job market google doc for recent job placement info.

CC808 - I have similar experience and as I mentioned the key seemed to be to connect the experience very tangibly to research interests and potential research questions. Otherwise industry exp can hurt.. Also, had a publication from a long time back in a different field but not sure how helpful that was. Again, happy to help if you want to DM.

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone interviewed for Management & Organisations at Kellogg? I've seen some posts about interviews for Management & Organisations& Sociology program applicants (and some acceptance notices too), so a bit confused if the former conducted any interviews too. Thanks for the responses in advance!

Hi. I have applied to 6 programs in Canada, as follows:

1- Rotman - University of Toronto (Organization behaviour)
2- Sauder - University of British Columbia (Organization behaviour)
3- Schulich - York University (Organisational studies)
4- Ivey - University of Western Ontario (Entrepreneurship)
5- Haskayne - University of Calgary (Entrepreneurship)
6- Beedie - Simon Fraser University (Entrepreneurship/Organisational studies)

I'v had an interview with POI in both Calgary & Simon Fraser, but that was it! Never heard back from these 2, neither was I shortlisted to interviews by the other 4programs.

I'm wondering if anyone applied to the same specialisations and heard back? which of those has the highest acceptance rate for international students with degrees from outside Canada/US? I also wonder when approximately do these universities send decisions (Either acceptance or rejection). Should I assume I'm rejected? ?

Much appreciation for any info!

Rotman acceptances for OB went out a little while ago.

Has anyone heard from UNC Kenan-Flagler, UCLA Anderson, Maryland, or USC Marshall for OB? I haven't seen anything posted in the results so just checking here to see if anyone has any info before I reach out to the schools. Thanks!
