Question on professional correspondence. I am on the waitlist at Duke. Back in February, the director of grad studies encouraged me to reach out to him if I had questions about the program. I have emailed him twice since then expressing continued interest in the program and asking general questions. Have not received a response to either email. How should I interpret this? Keep emailing or take his lack of response as indication that I will not be accepted?

They could just be terrible at responding and really busy (I am dealing with that kind of DGS at the program I am going to in the fall). I wouldn't worry about it too much! I think if you give reasonable time in between emails, it is perfectly reasonable to check in again because that is their job.

I think I will remove myself from Bloomington's waitlist soon. Their department seems to be having a lot of problems. A friend of mine was ABD there and they completely fucked him over. His supervisor left the department, and no one was willing to take over for him due to infighting and department politics. They also seem to be lacking fresh blood on their faculty. Also, who wants to live in an Indiana cornfield for 6 years anyway?

don't know about the department but, personally, I find the southern midwest to be one of the most beautiful geographic areas of the United States and it starts right around Bloomington. Brown County, etc. - really great parks.

Has anyone heard anything from the University of Florida? I cannot get a response.

I received a waitlist email a couple of weeks ago.  They said that final decisions would go beyond 15th, maybe for a couple weeks past at least.  Did you receive one as well?
