Has anyone else applied to the PhD in epidemiology programs at USC, Stanford, and UMass Amherst and know when we should hear back?

I am also waiting to hear from Umass Amherst. Hopefully both of us will hear something soon

New member here, though I've been lurking for a bit. Congrats to those of you who got a UMN HSR acceptance. I didn't get anything sadly but still holding out hope. Just to throw it out there, this is where I'm at. Trying to not read too much into no interviews yet.

Waiting: JHU, UMN, Drexel, Univ of Illinois Chicago (all HSR/health policy)

Accepted: UTHealth Health Econ/HSR

The better news for you is you already have an acceptance! Also applied to the U, and I did not receive anything either. Just emailed them, and awaiting their response. Rooting for you.

Update: Received official admission to University of Minnesota Health Services Research, Policy and Administration Ph.D a few minutes ago.

Rejections: UPenn Wharton Health Econ Ph.D

Interviews: JHU Health Econ Ph.D, Brown HSR Ph.D, BU HSR Ph.D, GWU Health Policy Ph.D

Acceptances: UMN HSR Ph.D, GWU Health Policy Ph.D

Silence: Harvard, Yale, Michigan

Update: Received a separate email from the chair of the UMN HSR admissions committee that the program does offer full funding for four years, which contradicts what is on their official website haha.

I see someone just uploaded on the results page that they received an interview for UIC DrPH. UIC and UNC DrPH folks who got interviews: do you know what dates they plan to interview until?

For UNC DrPH my invite said that they would interview throughout the month of February with the admissions decisions being made in early to mid-March. When I logged into the portal to schedule, the latest date available was February 25th. Hope that helps!

Thank you so much! Congratulations on your interview and best of luck!

Pretty insensitive thing to say of a forum that has some DrPH applicants.

I'm sure the person didn't mean it that way. But I agree that it's bogus that these DrPH programs are so expensive, yet still have acceptance rates of way less than 10% on average. You'd think since most of these Public Health Schools make their money off MPH students, they'd at least offer more tuition scholarships and waivers, or open up more spots in these part-time programs. Oh well, hopefully we'll see the programs grow with the public health need in the coming years.

I do not recall who but someone mentioned that Rutgers, DrPH, was sending out notifications first week of Feb. Do they mean this week, or next week since this week really started in end of January? lol

That was me. They just told me "in the first week", but also that if I don't hear by "the end of the first week" I can reach out and ask. I haven't heard anything either. From anyone. ?

I figure that I'll reach out mid-next week if I haven't heard by then. I'll give through the 7th officially. But it's killing me. I also don't know what to think about the lack of interview invites from other schools, and how much to freak out about that.

Wasn't trying to be insensitive. DrPH programs are generally intended for working professionals and are more practice-based than research-based overall, and thus follow regular tuition like masters programs eventhough there is a dissertation component. Ph.D programs in public health are inherently research-based, and the assumption is that you're doing research with professors at the school to further their grant goals and thus the university should be expected to pay you and provide full tuition-remittance in return.

If you receive a Ph.D offer of admission without a guaranteed funding package, or a partial funding package, it is implied that the university doesn't really want to invest in you / doesn't want you there. Usually funding packages are what tie you to the department you're working towards your Ph.D in.

Here is a decent reddit thread on the subject:

I applied to PhD programs and I'm also anxiously waiting to hear back from the programs, but many programs have been radio silence so I don't know what it means (rejections or they haven't sent out interviews yet). The wait is painful but hang in there! The best is yet to come.

Hi! I applied to USC and UMass Amherst too! I was offered to admission by UMass on Jan 12 but I guess it was because I submitted in November and ahead of time. Were you invited to the campus visit by USC?

Has anyone tried reaching out directly to Adcomm members (chairs, directors, deans mentioned on the website who are not your PIs) about the interviews instead of the Admissions Office when there is no response? Would this be considered out of the blue..?

I think USC does rolling admissions. I saw acceptances for the HBR program in early Jan and I was recently accepted to the HBR program earlier this week (had an informal interview with the POI mid Jan). It may vary by department, but it seems like its a continuous process.

Hi! Thank you so much for sharing? May I ask if you applied to the HBR PhD program? And were you invited to a virtual on-campus visit? I applied to Epi and was invited to this event but they didn't mention anything about individual interviews with POIs... I am not very clear about the next steps in the admissions process so I am anxious... Can you please share more details about your admissions process? Thank you in advance!

hi! Yes, I was invited to tomorrow's event! I think my interviews were more informal so that they could clarify what my research interests are and align them with faculty there. I think my personal statement may have not been specific enough for them to figure out exactly what my interests are. Have you checked your YouSc account to see if any admissions have been made? I think it's a VERY good sign that you were invited to tomorrow's event and I don't think interviews are mandatory. :)
