PhD / DrPh Fall 2022

Recommended Posts

About me: I completed a public health undergrad degree at a school in the SEC conference. After graduating, I worked as a research assistant for four years at a research center affiliated with a school in the Big 12 conference. I am currently enrolled in an MPH program at one of the top three US public health schools. I have attended a few national conferences and have 7 publications with 2 as a first author. I have LOR from two faculty researchers and one from a professor emeritus at my undergrad institution.

Applied to: Harvard social and behavioral sciences, USC health behavior research, JHU mental health, Brown behavioral and social sciences, UNC health behavior, University of Colorado epi, NYU social and behavioral sciences, Yale chronic disease epi, and BU epi

Interests: Developing substance use disorder interventions

I interviewed and was accepted at USC this month. I was told by someone at Brown to expect an interview invite sometime this month. I haven't heard from any of the other schools yet.

Hi everyone!

I am wondering if anyone got interview from University of Washington Health Economics & Outcomes Research PhD program? According to the website, they should start reviewing process in first week of January. I am started to panic. The waiting game is not fun at all. :(

Thanks in advance!

Can anyone speak to whether or not getting an interview means there is a good chance of being accepted into the PhD program? Also, if anyone else is applying straight into PhDs from undergrad?

I recently had an interview for a university's fellowship for their PhD program. Which, by the way, I am a little confused on why there would be an interview for the university's fellowship before even an offer of admission.

I don't know for sure but for a fair amount of PhD programs, funding via a fellowship needs to be guaranteed before they can accept a student. so it may be that for that particular program, you need the fellowship to be admitted as a PhD student. so, I'd take that as a sign that your application is strong enough for admission but they're looking now to see if you are a good research fit for available funding/the fellowship. i could be wrong--i am going off of very few details, haha.

I also interviewed for Duke Pop health PhD yesterday! Definitely got some questions I wasn’t expecting but we will see what they think. Should be finding out final decisions for them before the end of the month, right? Any clues on how many ppl got interviews?

Hi, sorry I only logged in just now. I have no idea, but if anything, you're the third person here on GC who mentioned being in the interview phase for the Duke Pop Health PhD program. During the interview I was told that final decisions might come out mid-February. I'll leave it up to chance at this point; as I said, I didn't feel too thrilled with the interview, though it might just be me vibing about the whole thing.

Hoping we all end up where we can do our best work!

Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster.

8 years of work experience in healthcare consulting at two separate firms (mostly payer / provider and Medicare / Medicaid consulting for the federal government and state Medicaid agencies). MPH from Johns Hopkins in Biostatistics.

Applied to Johns Hopkins, Harvard, Michigan, Brown, Yale, Wharton, GW, BU, and Minnesota - Twin Cities.

So far have received interview invites at:

1) BU PhD HSR (Interviewed 01/05)

2) Brown PhD HSR (Interview 01/28)

3) Johns Hopkins PhD Health Economics and Policy (Interview 01/13)

Will update further as the month moves along!

Update 01/18/2022:

1) BU PhD HSR (Interviewed 01/05)

2) Johns Hopkins PhD Health Economics and Policy (Interviewed 01/13)

3) GW Health Policy (Interviewed 01/17)

4) Brown PhD HSR (Interview 01/28)

GW has very limited funding (~2 slots) for this year, which I find insane because Milken is a well-funded program.

Heyy Congratulations everyone for the invites! I guess that is a silent rejection for me then? Did you guys get an email from the department? And would you guys mind sharing your stats and PIs? It would really help me to get an reality check?
