Well, catch me constantly checking my email for the next 3 weeks for the 0.0000000001% chance I get it awarded at this point ?

We should do a study on how much these fellowships actually reduce research output for this exact reason

A cursory calculation assuming everyone spends 40 hrs of labor on these applications suggests a 87.5% effectiveness of this fellowship ($3 million to ~$24 million awarded over 3 years)

By this admittedly arbitrary metric, your chance of winning the Mega Millions lottery jackpot is approximately four orders of magnitude more likely than winning NDSEG... tangentially related fun fact: the statistical probability of getting hit by lightning is about 3 orders of magnitude more likely than winning the lottery.

I think next year someone needs to submit this analysis and calculate the research time waste on this to NDSEG as their research proposal.

The fellowship coordinator specified that all awardees and honorable mentions have been notified. Hopefully we have better luck in the future!

Can confirm. She said that if you have not already been notified, then you were rejected. Rejection notifications should be coming out in mass within the hour.

Anyone receive the rejection note yet?

I received the rejection notice at about 4:30 CST. Didn't notice it until half an hour ago cause outlook sent it to a weird folder. Status on application portal is unchanged though.

Damn I must be really being ignored because I haven't even gotten the rejection. Lmao

Yes. According to it, they received “over 3142 applications” this year. As I said earlier, if you haven’t heard back in a positive manner by now, then you were rejected. Sorry mate.

You are not alone lol. I'm still waiting for the rejection letter to end this misery. Btw has anyone in physics got the acceptance email?

I'm wondering the same.... Did they just not take any physics people?

To add another anecdotal data point, I'm in physics and I didn't hear anything back. No notification about anything

Not getting any sort of response from ndseg has me on maximum copium now

do they select a fellow for each subsection in the BAA? I submitted for physical properties of materials in ARO got no updates whatsoever

Same here. I never got an update on my portal, and I still have yet to hear an outright rejection. I applied Physics AFOSR, though my subconcentration is optical physics.

Based on previous commenters, we know some BAAs or disciplines won't distribute any awards based on available projects and funding.

This is my thought exactly. I think I might had just applied to a field that didn't had any project/funding, which is why the application got ghosted entirely as the subject matter experts probably didn't even review it.

This is wack, I got NDSEG but didn't even get HM for GRFP

But the deadline to accept the NDSEG offer is April 12th so probably sometime after that?

I also haven't heard anything back... and never received the DoD panel update. Applied ARO Life Sciences/Genetics. I guess there's always next year ?

I also applied to life sciences/genetics. The person who runs the program is an insect geneticist and I was really hoping my application was going to make it to her for review. oh well.

I don't think whether or not your BAA has any "projects" matter. I had accidentally reached out to the person in charge of the program I applied to and they liked my weird wacky niche proposal and indicated it could win funding, unfortunately the subject matter panel didn't feel the same way.
