Old Man & the C(S) Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Ok, I've just gotten a group email about hosting a visiting student on my couch and officially cracked. Visiting weekend for Georgia Tech, College of Computing is Feb 27&28th. I saw someone in Robotics got an invite but has anyone heard from the HCC program?

Old Man & the C(S) Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I'm not sure if the visiting weekend is for the whole College of Computing. I received an invitation for the School of Interactive Computing's visit weekend Sorry, I forgot your screen name closetgeek. You were the someone I was talking about (grats btw). Since RIM seems to be across different schools (ECE, IC) and ECE got their answers out quite some time ago, it is likely the HCC notifications are completely different. I haven't heard anything from applicants on campus, but that email got me stressed enough to cast a wider net.
barber5 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 (edited) Out at CMU, my POI told me it was specifically because I had taken time off of school and he thought it was one of the more peculiar reasons for rejection he'd ever seen. Him being on sabbatical stopped him from "managing to react on time". Maybe he's just being nice, but he said he wanted me but the committee "wouldn't budge". Hopefully this won't work against me elsewhere. Edited February 11, 2011 by barber5

I'm applying to the HCC program and got invited to the visiting weekend a week ago. I had talked to my POI a few weeks before, though, and he had said that he'd make sure I was invited to the weekend, so I'm not sure if HCC in general is looking for students to visit. Best of luck to you in any case!
Lanchka Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 My Stanford and Berkeley admits came in yesterday with a three year and one year fellowship respectively.
Awexome Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Got into Berkeley today Then rejected from Stanford Results so far: Accepted: Berkeley, UT Austin, UCLA, Columbia CMU - applied to CS and machine learning, they forwarded my application to ECE, admitted into ECE (presumably rejected from CS/ML) Rejected: Stanford, WashU, assume rejected from MIT since I haven't heard anything from them Haven't heard anything from: UCSD, Harvard, Caltech (saw some Caltech interviews in January so maybe rejected there too) (All CS PhD programs, other than the weird CMU thing)

I don't understand why they keep us waiting to send the rejects.. it's so brutal!

Haha, I'm actually fine with it as I've completely given up all hope based on the fact that all admits were sent the same day last year. Would be sort of nice to get a confirmation though.

Awexome Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Did you interview with all the universities that extended an offer to you? No. I interviewed with Berkeley last Monday. I found out I was into UCLA when I had a "phone interview" with a professor there, but he had already decided that I was admitted and just wanted to talk to me, so I don't think that even counts as an interview. I also had a Skype conversation with the prof who accepted me into Columbia a few weeks after the acceptance. So the only real one was Berkeley. No form of interview whatsoever with UT.

Got into Berkeley today Then rejected from Stanford Congrats Lanchka and Awexome! I'll summarize my results so far: Accepted: Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, UW Rejected: CMU Waiting: Harvard This will be a hard decision. But one that I am happy to have ;-) Good luck, everyone. Maybe some of us will run into each other unknowingly over the visit days. Edited February 12, 2011 by Azazel
gradSchoolBound Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 so far admitted to northwestern and UMass - Amherst
psychopath@100 Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Accepted to UT Austin... Having an interview with Cornell Waiting for confirmation about funding from Georgia Tech. Prepared for rejection from Berkeley and MIT Dont care about Stanford...
scyrus Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Just heard back from CMU HCII - I'm in! Also, rejected from Stanford. It's kind of a bummer, but I've long thought that I only applied to Stanford for the name without being really passionate about the research they did there (which is surprisingly limited in the areas I'm interested in). zep 1
buckethead Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Accepted: Stanford and SCI Institute of U of Utah. Didn't hear from Berkeley, Harvard and MIT yet. Looking at the situation, seems like it will be a reject from Berkeley and MIT, not sure about Harvard yet. But I would have digged Stanford anyway.. so it doesn't matter now
sidharth_here Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Anybody who applied to CMU COS this time? I am getting anxious day-by-day.
psychopath@100 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Got into Purdue ECE PhD today with TA... BTW, when is MIT and Berkeley going to send their rejects? Any idea?
pandy Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Got into Purdue ECE PhD today with TA... BTW, when is MIT and Berkeley going to send their rejects? Any idea? I believe MIT's "take out the trash" day is today going by last year's trend...
CS Applicant 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I believe MIT's "take out the trash" day is today going by last year's trend... I really hope you're right... because I'm getting kind of tired of waiting.
Black_White_man Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Hello everybody, Is there any body who can guide me? I applied to Purdue, Uchicago, rutgers, UCI, UCSB and Dartmouth, but no news yet. Even for an interview. I think I am missed at least Uchicago, UCI,UCSB and Purdue since I see some results posted from this places. My top choice was Uchicago but I saw some acceptance results here. Does anybody know about Uchicago and their announcment policy? Is anybody who is accepted there? Please let me know caz I have lots of questions. Thanks,
edvolkov Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 (edited) There were no results from UCI, UCSB and only two results from Purdue (if you are talking about PhD degree and not Masters). Edited February 17, 2011 by edvolkov
midrux Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Any one knows about results in: UCDavis, RUTGERS, UFL ? I have applied for theory ... Is this area the most competitive one? Maybe I just have to wait for rejections ... ?
