Kathiza Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Sounds logic. But I was hoping that since I am a Fulbright grantee (and I already had two interviews with them) I could avoid the interviews; I also had e-mail contact with all of my potential advisers. In addition to this I live overseas and the telephone charges would be extremely high. But I'll just wait. If any school wants an interview, I hope they'll notify me a couple of days before it's supposed to take place, so I can prepare...
CommCommClub Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Oh I hope not... I had one interview with a school in summer (I didn't apply, though, but they wanted to get to know me) - and I really suck at interviews. I'm so nervous and I don't know what to say etc. So I hope they don't want to interview me. Anyway, I didn't quite understand the result-entry: Did it say that they HAD the interview and will get the results (acceptance, rejection) in February? Or did it say that they just were NOTIFIED about an interview which will be held in February? If it's the latter, then it will take a couple more weeks until we will get any results... Hey Kathiza (and Seasonal), I was the one who posted the UNC interview to the results board. I applied to the Mass Comm PhD in the School of Journalism and Mass Comm. The interview is in mid-February, so I don't plan to hear anything for a few more weeks. Hope that helps!
cork1203 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Hey all. If anyone has applied to the Master's program in Communication and Culture at Indiana, they sent out some admissions decisions via email today. I got waitlisted. Hope this helps anyone else who is frantically checking their status there.
Kathiza Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Oh my god, I'm slowly freaking out over here.... (I'm absolutely not used to this type of application process!!!) I've heard nothing from Indiana (about my application to the PhD program that is)... I've heard nothing from UNC. No interviews. Nothing from any of the schools I applied to. I was pretty self-confident before because they kept telling us that with a Fulbright grant it's a lot easier to get in because you practically come with your own funding (at least for the first year). But what if none of the schools want me? Panic!

Just the fact that you have got a Fulbright shows that you are a strong candidate!
Strangefox Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Hm, still no news from Syracuse. And they wrote that they would notify shortlisted candidates by February... And nothing like that on the results board, no one heard from Syracuse Newhouse this year. Perhaps they are just moving slower through our apps than they expected?
Katiana Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Kathiza, it's still early! I'm sure everything will work out. @Strangefox: About Syracuse, I was curious about the process myself, so I took a look at the past results (on gradcafe), and it seems that most people get notified around early March. I guess this must be different for Ph.D candidates, especially since you mentioned they'd let you know by February. Anyhow, I hope they have good news for you soon!
Strangefox Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I guess this must be different for Ph.D candidates, especially since you mentioned they'd let you know by February. Yes, they must have sent this letter to every PhD applicant: Thank you for your application to the Newhouse Ph.D. program! Your file is complete. As part of the application process, we will conduct interviews with top applicants via Skype. We will inform you by the end of January should you be among those invited to interview. Please let me know if you have any questions during the application process. Thanks - And January is almost over!!!!!

If I were you, I'd probably go nuts with the temptation of trying to contact the school for answers.
Strangefox Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 If I were you, I'd probably go nuts with the temptation of trying to contact the school for answers. I am surprisingly calm
seasonal Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I am surprisingly calm Strangefox: Same here! I got the same message. The only difference is they said that they would invite me to the school should I be among the shortlisted. Have not heard anything from them.
cork1203 Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 Hey Kathiza, Try not to stress too much, I'm sure you're going to hear something soon. Thinking good thoughts for you!

I guess they wrote about Skype in my message because I am an international applicant.
CDRR Posted February 1, 2011 Posted February 1, 2011 I've been bad about keeping up with the thread (prospectus is due on Thursday!), but congrats to everyone who has heard something good!

seasonal Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Oh, well, rejected from Wisconsin-Madison... Again, good luck Strangefox
Strangefox Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Again, good luck Strangefox Thanks! By the way, can tell a couple of things about Madison - for those here who are waiting to hear from them. The professor I was in touch with sent me a very nice letter where they explained that I was rejected and not waitlisted because they do not have waitlists in the department, - they are quite small. I was rejected not because of some weaknesses of my app but because there was no perfect fit between my interests and those of the faculty. That is, there was some fit, otherwise I would not have been interviewed, but there were people with better fit, hence the decision. Oh, well, I guess it's all for the best, I will be better off in a place with a better fit, - said Strangefox looking at the grapes Poj 1
