A little off-topic but, if you are awarded scholarships, fellowships, etc but not going to the school's program, is this something that you cannot ethically add to your resume? My initial guess would be that you have to be in the program to really have 'received' the award. Just curious...

Yea, if you don't accept the school's offer and the award, then it's not yours to brag about.

Thanks for giving me suggestions !!! Surly CMU is a good school. But I'm not sure if it is a better choice since i'm interested in experimental video/animation and music video... I just know Saic is famous for that program. Dose anyone know anything about that in CMU? thank you again!!

I know CMU is a smaller, interdisciplary program. It will probably not have a lot of other film/video/animation students if your in the fine art dept. CMU is a little more selelctive than SAIC, but SAIC's resources and facilities are pretty good. I don't know if CMU can compete with the resources here, but maybe they can. CMU is a really good school though.

I've seen people list a school's scholarship and write "Declined" next to it. It's not terribly uncommon (especially among undergrad students) but it's of course better to list scholarships that you have accepted.

Congrats to all those accepted, and good luck to those waitlisted or waiting for the next round. I decided to accept an offer from The Studio for Interrelated Media at MassArt. If there is anyone else who will be attending MassArt, please message me.

It doesn't matter if you were offered it, until you accept it you never got it. "Declined" after the award on your cv doesn't work either.

Ahhh, you're talking about SAIC not SFAI. My bad, sorry.

Carnegie Melon is ranked #1 for Multimedia/Visual Communications in the US News listings, whereas SAIC is ranked #3. Those rankings should be taken with a grain of salt, as just like everything else in the art world, it's all a popularity contest. However, It's still a good school. And if they are giving you money, all the better. Unless you'd be heartbroken if you don't go to Chicago and spend a ton of money, CMU seems like the better deal to me.

Congratulations! How did you find out?

Got a letter in the mail on Wednesday. I'm actually out of town so I don't know what information is included just that I got in.

On the upside, I'm really happy for you. You going to accept?

On the downside, I have lost all hope. Can I live vicariously through you? LOL

just looks like you're trying to toot your horn - may show you are insecure and you need to prove something

Got accepted to post-bac at SAIC

Many Congratulations on your acceptance!!! I spoke with a guy named Patrick there and he said that they will start mailing the decisions by April 20th.. I am still waiting to get mine. Did they mention anything about the funding in the letter?

Just in case any of you are in Chicago on April 27th (this Friday), the MFA show opening is from 6-10 at 33. S State Street, 7th floor.

Yeah, I agree with "Duchamp", this would be a strange thing to do...especially if you ended up going to a particular school but had "scholoarship awards" from entirely different schools.

Aside from making you look "dorky", it would be completely confusing to somebody reading your resume...I, for one, would think you were lying about what school you went to and would either toss your resume out or start doing a background check...

Glad to see another Carnegie Mellon admit. I had started to feel lonely. :P

It's kinda funny how both the art and design schools get to claim the #1 Visual/Multimedia Communication ranking as their own. Makes a bigger bunch of people feel happier.

Only if it is something really outstanding. Then you can list it with "(Declined)" after it. If you need to. But after a few years, drop it.

You think the difference between the two schools is significant though?

Not in painting. The Davis name still has a little bit of the cachet from the old days, but they were always much better known for 3-D. You did right by going for the money.

I'm just accepted by SAIC (Film, Video, New Media and Animation, no financial support) and CMU (Fine Arts with financial support of $24500)...now I can't make a decision...does anyone knows about the Fine Arts department of CMU and give me suggestions? thx!

CMU for sure. More selective=more prestigious. Plus you get some money.

Today i am leaving NYC headed back home. Back home to make some decisions.

SFAI is out. Didnt like the vibe of the place. Program is too big.

So now my choices are between City College of New York or Brooklyn College.

Any thoughts you guys have would be really helpful. They are both awesome programs and I am having a hard time deciding which one.

Brooklyn College I think has a known program as told by my department chair for undergrad. It has Vito Acconci as its program director,he is the old guard so to speak of the NYC avant garde. The artist Nari Ward also came out from BC an awesome artist by the way. And it is also recognized as having a beautiful campus. City College is so/so its known alumni for sculpture is the artist Chakai Booker but I feel its quite congested for a campus. Yeah, I had kind had the same feeling with SFAI interms of the program size, but I do love the the city of SF in itself. But too expensive in both living and school tuition. While the CUNY system is very expensive in living, but the tuition is so cheap compared to SFAI. Well let me know what your thoughts are. Hope I've been some help
