wintergirl Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 (edited) (Yep, I'm procrastinating.) Something in another thread made me curious: What are everyone's first choices or ultimate dream schools on your list of programs? UCLA for me. Sadly, I fear I'm unlikely to get in. Go, Bruins! MichaelK Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Penn. What would I give for a spot in that program? A few toes? A kidney? Yeah, I'd probably be up for that.
Timshel Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 Honestly, anywhere that will take me. All of the schools I applied to I would love to go to. If I have actual options, then I will have to assess which one I want to go to the most. Starlajane 1
bdon19 Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I'm with Timshel; I'll be beyond happy to go to any of the programs I've applied to. BUT, if I had to choose it'd totally be Brown. Starlajane 1
indalomena Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 always had a good feeling about Yale. When I went to talk over my applications with one of my LOR writers, he immediately said that Yale was the one that sprung to mind for my interests, and since then I suppose it's always been in my mind as the one for me. *sigh* Obviously I'm highly unlikely to get in -- I know I have a strong application, but so does everyone. So I'm trying not to obsess. To be honest, as I applied to so few programs, I would be delighted and incredibly lucky to get into any of them!
Jbarks Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 I agree with Timshel and Bdon, but Rochester is technically my number one.
lolopixie Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Third, I would love to go to any of the programs that accepted me that I have applied to, but top choice is Miami.
marlowe Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Third, I would love to go to any of the programs that accepted me that I have applied to, but top choice is Miami. Coral Gables, I assume? The campus is absolutely amazing. Seriously beautiful. And you can literally run over the bridge into the keys.

marlowe Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Ha, I hope this was intentional. What do you mean? (So no, probably not intentional).
rawera Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 If I recall, lolopixie mentioned that he/she is tired of clarifying Ohio rather than FL. Could be confusing lolo with another user, though.
jywayne Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Michigan for me. THey are huge in 19th-20th Century American Realism & Naturalism, which is my thing. Here's to hoping that all you folks who get admitted to Michigan will choose to go to the Ivys instead when I ultimately get plopped on a wait-list in the best case scenario.
JeremiahParadise Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Probably Tufts at this point, but we'll see what I'm thinking when I apply this fall.

Could be confusing lolo with another user, though. Well if that is the case, I apologize, Lolo. Whoops. I have never been to Oxford, OH, but I have friends of friends that did their undergraduates there and loved it. Also, it is closer to Cedar Point than I have ever lived; that has got to count for something, right? Edited January 12, 2012 by marlowe
Grunty DaGnome Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 Brown. I know, the odds are not with me.
Venti White Choc. Mocha Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I know lolo is talking about Coral Gables, no need to worry. Is it Keys or Quays? I hate odd words I don't understand. UCR or Kansas for me. Resources at both are just what I need for my research, but in round two I'll take any university that wants me for a thousand Alex. bfat Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 I'm not applying until next fall, so I hope it's okay if I still participate... But I am kind of obsessed with Cornell. Went on "vacation" to Ithaca last summer (i.e. secretly to stalk the campus and the English department) and I love everything about it. I have a friend in the program there, so I plan to go back this semester to hang out with her and hopefully stalk meet some more of the faculty. She's actually suggested applying to work at Cornell if I don't get in (since I work at a university now), and then reapplying... I know I should keep my options open and try to get more excited about the other programs I'll be applying to (which are all still really good, and I'd be lucky to attend), but I'm afraid this is becoming a fixation.
antecedent Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 It's a tie for UT Austin and UW Madison. Though as many have stated, any school I get in to (that funds me even a little bit, hopefully, seeing as I've just gotten into a program that includes zero funding) is really my top choice program.

(Do do do do do do do do do do do- DAILY DOUBLE) I was referring to the Florida Keys. But the word 'cays' means something very similar. 'Quays' are usually in harbors, I think - like where you dock a boat to load or unload, maybe? I have a feeling that they all stem from the same root.
HaruNoKaze Posted January 12, 2012 Posted January 12, 2012 My top choice is UT Austin, but I'd be happy with whoever will take me.
TryingAwfullyHard Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 I'm with Timshel; I'll be beyond happy to go to any of the programs I've applied to. BUT, if I had to choose it'd totally be Brown. Brown or Michigan!
cquin Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 Coral Gables, I assume? The campus is absolutely amazing. Seriously beautiful. And you can literally run over the bridge into the keys. Well...you can't actually run over the bridge to the Keys, unless you're thinking of Key Biscayne and the Rickenbacker Causeway. But Key Biscayne isn't a "Key" as in a Florida Key... Anyway, splitting hairs I'm only bringing this up because I was born and raised in Miami and I am currently cursing my decision to move to the cold, frigid Northeast (this weather is fucking killing me right now). But back to the original topic: Duke's Literature program is my top choice. I'm trying not to obsess over it right now but MY GOD, it's difficult.
antecedent Posted January 13, 2012 Posted January 13, 2012 UW Madison just sent me an email about financial aid and my heart nearly lept out of my throat! ...it turns out they were just reminding me to fill out the FAFSA. Sigh. I didn't read anywhere that there was a deadline for filling it out, cause it only just opened. I hope this won't be counted against me... WHY does grad school turn me into such an irrational person?? Why must you play with my heart so, UW-Madison?? litjust and Grunty DaGnome 2
