Well then maybe I made myself look bad haha. I emailed them before I saw the list of profs accepting students for this year. This just keeps getting worse and worse lol

Yeah sure Djentbot!

Djenbot might be right, I was thinking of other schools where they recommend getting in touch with profs! But don't worry if you already contacted profs, I imagine they get a ton of emails from applicants so they are likely not going to remember everyone that emailed them and weren't supposed to.

Actually Djenbot, I was curious as to your CAMH experience too lol but you can PM me if you feel comfortable :)

Yeah that's true. Thanks lol that makes me feel better! You said you applied two years ago? Just curious as to what you have been up to in between.

And if it's others' first time application?

This is the first time for me. And I'm reeeeeally glad I have my UWO acceptance because there's no way I could go through this emotional rollercoaster ever again.

Honestly, it's not even like UWO is a safety school for me. I loved the faculty when I had my interview there and the school has a great rep. The only thing that would make me choose OISE over UWO is the guaranteed minimum funding package and the fact that you come out of the MA ready to apply for psychological associate status with the CPO.

Yes! You are so lucky. This is rough on the heart! haha

Would you want to do a doctorate level? I wonder if that is a factor in the review process- probably not eh

Posted

I'm strongly considering the doctorate. As long as I feel like I've found a good research fit and could see myself continuing on, then I'd definitely want to apply for it.

Syedahum, do you mind saying where you're doing your MPsy in counselling? How have you found the training so far?

Posted

Not at all- I'm doing it at Adler Graduate Professional school in Toronto. I like the program but it is very different and I miss UofT in some ways. It is a new school so it has it downs but the program itself is very clinical which is good. Classes are on weekends. But to be completely honest- I'd rather be at UofT. This school has a lot to figure out still and I want to do more research.

I'd imagine it's hard being a student in a brand new program like that. There are enough unknowns in grad school as it is haha.

Posted

Well this is supposed to be a satellite school of the Adler in Chicago and Vancouver which are established schools. But, honestly, I am not impressed. Which is why the pressure of getting into UofT is so much more. Would be life changing for me on so many levels (mostly due to funding too, haha)

Yeah, it's a shame to be a slave to the dollar but after my undergrad debt I'll do whatever it takes to avoid adding on to the pile haha.

To answer Syedahum's question, I spent the last two years working full time at the Sexual Assault Centre (in two different positions) lol I don't want to give out too much publicly but I can PM you and tell you more?

Just curious Djenbot, do you know which professor you will be working with if you accept UWO's offer? You can PM it to me if you don't want to post it here.

I'd have loved to work with Dr. Pete Jeffe!

For those who got rejected from UWO do you mind if I ask you when that Happend? Before or after getting the interview? Thanks a lot, I haven't seen many people sharing infos about this program.

I just got the rejection email today- it was a pretty generic one stating that they had a large number of applicants and only a few spots to offer. They had the interviews first week of March but I never went through the interview process so thats all I can help you with :(

Thank you so much! I did get the invitation for the interview but I wasn' t able to make it and still regretting now:((

Djenbot, I am also curios who you will working with in case of acceptance. I mentioned Dr. Susan Rodger in my statement and I wrote her twice but I never got any answer, it was kind of surprise they selected me for the interview.

Aww sorry that you didn't get to go to the interview but at least you know they see potential in you as a candidate :) Did you get in touch with the professor before or after you were invited for an interview?

Oh, I'm not surprised because I had got in touch with Dr. Jeffe shortly after applying. I emailed him twice and the second time he simply responded saying that he'd be happy to chat with me if I got accepted into the program lol

Well, I figured out that the interview is an important step in the whole process since the professors don't engage in discussing with applicants to much before the final result, even though on their website they advised us to secure a supervisor. Well, I guess I should stop thinking of this program and focus to the rest of my applications.

I am really sorry you didn't get in:((( What other universities are you waiting for?

Posted

Well it was a last minute decision for my to apply to grad schools but I'm only waiting from UofT. I wasn't planning on starting my Masters this year and was hoping to keep working for at least another year but figured I'd apply and see what happens anyway lol

I know my chances of getting in with only having applied to two schools are slim but its nice to get into the application process to know what to expect the next time around

I had emailed two of the profs before applying and basically got the same reply, that they'd be happy to talk about working together if I got accepted to the program. After the interview, I could easily see myself working with any of the faculty there. They're all engaged in interesting research and seem like warm, dedicated supervisors. The way they explained it is that they hold a thesis meeting with all of the students during the first couple weeks of the program to go over the research available in the department and align people with supervisors.
