hedgerows Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Well, it's official. I just accepted my offer at UNC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO EXCITED! YAY! Let's be "triangle" friends/real friends! Us North Carolina 18th centuryists have to stick together, after all!!
The Aged P Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I'll be at CUNY! It was my only option, but it probably would have been my first choice in any scenario.
TripWillis Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 (edited) Vanderbilt for me Woo! Congrats! I bet you'll love it, but I'm also sad we won't be cohort mates. It was nice meeting you anyway. I'll be at CUNY! It was my only option, but it probably would have been my first choice in any scenario. It's not a bad first choice at all. Congrats! I wish I could post a final decision. Ugh. The thought of having to wait another week. You know what? I'm okay with it. Whatever happens, things'll be great. I need to stop worrying. Edited April 6, 2012 by TripWillis
mono411 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 RUTGERS!! As an early americanist, I knew all along it was my top choice, so it was sort of a no brainer to accept.

silentskye Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Going to Boston University! Admittedly it was my only option, but who cares, it was also my top choice (discounting reach schools).
Greenisforvegetables Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I'm headed to the University of Delaware. Due to location restrictions, I only applied to two schools, and this was my top choice of the two. So, It wasn't a hard decision, but I'm excited nonetheless.
woolferine Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 UPenn! Good luck to everyone in the decision-making process.

myriadways Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 Woo! Congrats! I bet you'll love it, but I'm also sad we won't be cohort mates. It was nice meeting you anyway. Thanks! I hope I will, I really enjoyed my visit there. Me too and likewise, I'm sure we'll meet again eventually! Also, sending good vibes your way for Rutgers, though I know CUNY's a great option too! I can't imagine the waiting agony at this late stage in the game
rmgerdes Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 OU!!! Now all I have to do is figure out how to find a house from 1000 miles away.... Accepted to Graduate Schools Problems... I love it!
jmaeschro Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I am into 20-21st century lit. and critical theory (think Hegel, Barthes, Derrida...) I have full scholarships from UNC Chapel Hill and Iowa for my PhD (straight out of undergrad). I visited both. Love them both. Don't know what to do. How impt is rank anyway? I might care more in six years. Do I go for one that might be more challenging, or one that would make me happy? I'm totally lost. How did you decide? Ultimately what did it come down to?

If you do equally well at each school, I would suppose you'll be more successful on the job market graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill. It's impossible for anyone less informed to tell you one way or another, but I would weigh how much more you like Iowa versus the potential opportunities you'll get with a much more heralded school on your resume. WendyMoira Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 I am dancing between Indiana University and University of Texas. No decision in sight...

TripWillis Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Also, this made my day. Glad it made someone's day. God I wish I could post my final decision... I reeaaaalllyyy hope this whole thing is over by friday... if this goes into the weekend... god help me.
antecedent Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Oxford University! MSt in English Hooray for going British! Are you from the UK or is it as huge as a transition for you as it is for me?
ecritdansleau Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 (edited) If you do equally well at each school, I would suppose you'll be more successful on the job market graduating from UNC-Chapel Hill. I'm not sure why someone dinged Galoup for this (if one has a difference of opinion, they may as well share their perspective). I can say that my professors would agree with the above statement by Galoup (For my undergraduate degree I went to a school similar to Iowa in the midwest..and yes, we talk about these things). Even if there's no objective truth to rankings in that way, I think it would be in one's best interest to be aware of varying "perceived" prestige when considering such a huge decision (And I would appreciate fellow gradcafer's honest opinions on that, despite how arbitrary such assignments of prestige may be). All that about prestige may very well be moot, however, depending on your interests and the faculty you'd work with. Do I go for one that might be more challenging, or one that would make me happy? I'm totally lost. How did you decide? I would go where you feel you would be happiest. If you're happy, all the other things (doing well, balancing your time, bouncing back from minor setbacks) will be that much more manageable. Edited April 10, 2012 by ecritdansleau Two Espressos 1
