I'm confused. Have they not made their decision? I thought they have sent the offers and are waiting for the admitted students to respond. What do they plan to do on Feb 27?

Well, you could wait till 27th, or send an email to the department now, asking for specifications.

They could simply be saying that their rejection letters are going to be sent out on 27th, sealing the admissions process.

Either way, I highly doubt that they would retract any (or more than a small number of, if this is ever the case) offers that have already been presented.

Have you been notified of the number of admitted students when you've got your letter that put you on a waitlist from UMass?

They said that they have 141 people competing for 8 slots. But they did not mention how many offers they actually sent.

Somebody posted that they heard from CU Boulder today. Was anybody else contacted? That's my favorite school, so I'm kinda anxious...

Thanks! I have the impression that the waiting list is just a softer form of rejection. Not that many syntax students like UMass. I guess that's why I am wait-listed and not flat-out rejected. I actually plan to turn myself into a semanticist when I land there. Maybe they have discovered my conspiracy and decided not to give me the chance...just kidding haha! If you applied to UMass as a semantics student, I think it is normally more challenging than you apply as a syntax/acquisition student. So don't take this as reflection of your inadequate ability.

I personally take this to mean that I can work harder. I plan to add 15mins' reading time daily for every rejection I receive. So if I'm rejected by all the four programs that wait listed me, I will read one additional hour each day throughout my life. I can imagine how fruitful it is!

I perfectly understand your feeling. Rejection is so difficulty to take. You need to re-establish your self-image and even re-plan your future. But if you can cope with rejection successfully, it might be instrumental to your personal growth. My experience is that among the faculty members in my current program, those who have been rejected are maturer, easier to work with, and more productive. Somehow those who have got into every program are more self-centered, harder to communicate, and less productive. This could be only a co-incidence due the small sample size. No offense to the successful applicants in this forum.

Somebody from my program got invited to an Open House for Boulder yesterday. They said they are gonna invite 7-8 external students and 6-7 of their own and that all of these are finalists... I haven't heard anything either... A part of me is still hoping, but I don't think it looks good for those of us who haven't heard anything...

Just got rejected by Delaware. They gave 4 funded offers and 4 people are on waiting list...

 

Have no substantial research experience and applied with an interest in syntax. Had an interview with them and feel flattered.

Just got an email from Hawaii stating that I wasn't offered a position in the PhD program, but asking if I was interested in the MA. Does this mean I got accepted to the MA? Does anyone know about how funding would work for that?

To put it simply, you most likely wouldn't receive funding.

Without asking, it's hard to know, given that some MA programs do fund their students at least partially.  I would suggest writing back to them, and saying that you may be interested, but it would depend upon funding situation.

I saw somewhere at their website that they fund MA students and the amount is $15000. Check their website and also the results page here to see what they offered last years.

I was accepted last year (but accepted another offer). The acceptance e-mail mentioned $5,000/semester towards tuition costs.  Tuition is $7,038 per semester...

If can i get an offer from UMD i'll wait for it till the last moment and i'll choose it over UMass. UMass seems not able to support students in summers and for me who is an international married applicant this seems to be a serious obstacle.

Maryland's conducting fly-in interviews later this week, so I believe all their offers have been sent out already!

So Afraymi you prefer UMD to Cornell? But Cornell provides support for the summer too, according to what you posted earlier.

but i don't know about the funding package of UMD yet. They may have a better funding package. Funding in my case is an important factor. I'm also trying to check if i can get funds or some kind of job from UMass in summers.

Sorry, what I meant was that the offers for interviews have already been sent out, so I think that the accepted students (to be determined after the interview process) will be selected from the shortlisted (interviewed) applicants.

Oh if that's the case i've lost one of my best shots but i emailed my POI and he told me decision about your case has not made. Maybe he wanted to be polite and let the department do the dirty works. If this is the case, i'll have to keep my eyes on Northwestern and Chicago and hope and hope.

I am still waiting too... More than likely for a rejection, but you never know! I called about a week ago and was told no decisions had been made and that they probably wouldn't be sending anything out until the end of March.

I got an invitation for an open house meeting that is going to be a discussion of the PhD linguistics program for an hour and a half, Is that an acceptance? Or is it just an invitation every applicant gets? Anyways, I got invited by George Mason.
