I swear, I am eternally out of upvotes.  CONGRATS to everyone with all of your good news!  Imagine that I am doing this simultaneously to each one of you:

Thanks for the info!  Should I make it known to UNC that I'm very fond of their program and would most likely attend if admitted?

I know I'm a bit late on this, but I've been waitlisted as well and one of my LOR writers told me to express my interest right away. She said wait lists are sometimes ranked and sometimes not, but that they are almost always "squishy." So let them know you love them and that they are your number one choice!!!  And GOOD LUCK!!!

Other UNC waitlisters: the wait list is unranked.  I plan on attending the Open House; look forward to seeing you guys there!  UNC might be my only good news this season, but even if it wasn't, I'd very much want to attend.  They've got lots of interdisciplinary and scientific/cognitive stuff going on there, which is definitely up my alley.

I really hope the wait list materializes for me!  Fingers crossed, everyone!

Congrats to the future Tar Heels out there! Are any of y'all lucky UNC admits/waitlists specializing in Rhet/Comp? I am, and I haven't yet heard word either way... :/

Hey Sursie. I'm rhet/comp and got a wait list notification from UNC, but I told them to take me off. Good luck!! :)

Got accepted to Miami of Ohio's  M.A. program (tuition remission, TA position + scholarship). They said they were really impressed with my application which made me feel better after getting Emory's official rejection. Of course I had to turn their offer down, but nonetheless it was a nice way to start the day.

Hello! I got waitlisted at UNC, and nope, not specializing in Rhet/Comp. I hope you hear from them soon!

Yeah, unranked--I just noticed that when I was rereading the letter (so maybe I can't stop reading it... SO WHAT?). I really want to attend the Open House and methinks I'll just bite the bullet and book some tickets soon. That's if I can get my boss lady's permission to miss work. And if I can get my bank account to stop crying. I wish I knew whether any other schools are going to invite me to visit, and if so, when! But luckily the other schools I might hear from are a lot closer and would be easier to visit.

ANYWAY, fingers crossed for us both!  :D And maybe we'll even meet in March!

If you're referring to the MA acceptance, that was me! I'll likely be turning it down, though.

Oh, well congrats anyway! Did you apply for the MA/PhD or the terminal masters? And did you get any info about the current state of notifications, like how many got in or if you were an early acceptance?

Thanks! I applied for the terminal MA only, and I applied as a Victorianist. It totally escaped my mind to ask about the current state of notifications--apologies! (Between getting into grad school and now getting a FT job offer for a job I applied to before getting into schools, my head's seriously been all over the place.)

I do recall seeing a PhD acceptance on the results survey from maybe last week?

Could someone claim/explain the "waitlist via other" for Brandeis? What is the "other"?

I would like to know too! :)

Oh, no need to apologize! It's just that acceptance letters often talk about "receiving x number of applications and accepting y number of applicants" or something else like that. I'm mostly just curious about when I'll finally hear something, that's all.

Just checked my offer letter again, and unfortunately, no word on the number of applicants. I do hope you hear from them soon, though!

Yay davidm! Congrats!

DontHate raises a really interesting question: how DO everyone's parents feel about them applying to English MA/PhD programs? Supportive? Bewildered?

I have a really difficult relationship with both parents. I don't ask them for any support, and they don't give me any. I haven't told them that I'm applying to programs, but I'll probably tell them if I enroll somewhere. Anyway, my sister is getting a PhD in HDFS at a pretty damn good program, and my brother's career plans have stalled / he's been living with our parents since he graduated college five years ago (nothing wrong with that, but it's not what he wanted, and our hometown is a soul-crushing place)... I am the youngest, and I have no idea what they expect of me.

Hey all.  Lurker par excellence here. I've got a fun story about this:

I applied to 10 schools last year, rejected from all of them.  Parents were dubious but cautiously supportive of taking one more shot (I was willing to admit last year's SOP was kinda purposeless... not as targeted as it should have been). Rewind to last week.  I had been waitlisted at Vanderbilt and rejected from Northwestern.  It's Wednesday and I'm chilling around the house when I get a call from California.  Turns out I got into UC Irvine's Ph.D. program.  Tell my mom and she's floored - she didn't actually think I'd get in.  She obviously wanted it, but didn't think I could do it (not necessarily because of skill, but competitiveness).  I think they still are sort of like "really, he's really getting a phd in the humanities?," but considering that I pulled it off, they are gonna have to deal.

Anyway, I'm still pretty fucking stoked.  Irvine is in my top 3, so this is really amazing.  Any other peeps from Irvine around here (I was not the one who filled out the survey - I actually stayed away from TGC all year somehow, but finally broke my vow since I'm in.  They still haven't sent the funding information, and I was wondering if anyone else has heard or not.

CONGRATS! I am waiting on Irvine, and not sure whether I should assume I am rejected or not. I really want to know, because if I somehow am accepted, I'd arrange to visit there and Riverside on the same trip. Just wish I knew.

But anyways, more importantly, CONGRATS! That is a huge accomplishment!!!
