thinkagain Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 For those of you who have been accepted or rejected, did your status change on the website? Just want to know if checking my status is a futile effort.
gwarner13 Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 FWIW, my status changed to "admitted" that day, and there's now a congratulatory message across the top of my home page as well.
dazedandbemused Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Mine changed as well. I got the email from Wayne Lesser first, and then an email from the graduate school to check my application status. It changed to "admitted".
aGiRlCalLeDApPlE Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Are you talking about English or Comp. lit.?
Sursie Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 Ernest, are you still waiting to hear any word at all? I'm Rhetoric, too. Wondering if/who my cohort in rhet/comp might include. Good luck!

PseudoSX Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Just putting it out there: haven't heard anything yet. Still listed as in review. I applied for the Digital Literacies and Literature program. Only applied to 3 programs, got rejected by two (including ASU which honestly surprised me... a lot). So feeling kind manic desperate! lol
Sursie Posted February 21, 2013 Posted February 21, 2013 Good luck! They sent out all those rejections last week, right? Maybe that bodes well for those of y'all who haven't heard either way yet... ? Who knows! Admissions processes are so different everywhere and so confounding as it is.

I'm real, real close to emailing. If you don't mind me asking, are you feeling like you'll attend? Did they send you visiting day info? Edited February 21, 2013 by ErnestPWorrell
dazedandbemused Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Hey all, I just wanted to let you know that I think all of the acceptances have already gone out. I got an email with some details about visiting weekend, and it was addressed to "admitted students." I don't think they would have sent that out if they weren't done with, at the very least, the first round of acceptances. Maybe waitlists will be forthcoming?
PseudoSX Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 Just received my waitlist letter. Here's hoping I'll get in in the end. If you're planning to turn them down, please let them know!

ErnestPWorrell Posted February 23, 2013 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Mmyep seconding this. thriding. to anyone in the rhetoric subfield with an offer: contact me if you would like my first born. we can make a rumpelstiltskin-style deal. or i can make you a cupcake. whatever! WendyMoira Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 I'll second everything GuateFeminist and Fiona said. (They're both awesome people and a lot of fun to drink with, btw). Anyway, you all can PM me, too, if you want info. I think I speak for my whole cohort when I say we are obsessed with Texas and you should all come here. No, really. You should. Conscia Fati 1
PseudoSX Posted February 24, 2013 Posted February 24, 2013 Believe me, there's nothing I want more. Their Digital Literature subfield is truly unique. It's the perfect combination of elements for me. I'm crossing my fingers that they're simply waiting on confirmation for expanded funding.
cougarstigers! Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 hi friends! does anyone know how the funding situation shakes out at austin? is it widely disparate, or is it the same fully-funded package for each? i'm thrilled to have received an offer, and have heard such wonderful things about the culture at austin from prof. lessor and WendyMoira; AND, practically, at this date, i've received a number of offers at very compelling programs for double my ut-austin stipend offer, and with far more time in fellowship. prof. lesser has explained this as a very conscious strategy to build fantastic teachers, which i really appreciate; just not sure how funding looked across the board, within a given cohort. thanks for any help! feel free to PM if that is better, since sometimes i get weirded out by how public these forums are ...

Hey, there was some conversation about the funding at UT over in the post-acceptance stress thread earlier today. My impression is that they deliberately give everyone equal funding. The debate, however, is over what it would be like to live off of that money. If you want to talk more, PM me; I'm pretty worried about this as well.
GuateAmfeminist Posted February 28, 2013 Posted February 28, 2013 Funding is indeed equal, though there are other fellowships and opportunities that can be taken advantage of (FLAS for foreign language study for example).
dazedandbemused Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Just sent in the paperwork for the campus visit, so I thought I'd resurrect this thread. I know there are quite a few Austin people on here, but it seems like many are leaning toward their other offers. Anyone else around here planning to go to the visit weekend? How are you feeling about the program at this point? I think I've finally reached a place where, unless something about Austin is just unbelievably horrible, I'll probably be accepting.
Sursie Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Oh, snap! I've gotta send in that paperwork today, too. I started it last week and then forgot to finish it... thanks for the reminder! I'm super excited about the visit. Can't wait to meet profs/grad students/potential cohort, and I hear Austin's awesome. As far as decision-making goes, I won't decide until all offers are in and any campus visits are completed. But congrats on getting to the point where you feel you're close to deciding! Can't wait to meet you and others.
heliogabalus Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Austin is awesome, and they have an incredible old Medievalist named Kaulbach there. If you get the chance take a class with him.
brigadierpudding Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 I'm definitely looking forward to Recruitment Weekend. I've been jonesing to find out more about UT: my other acceptances have been very forthcoming with info about their programs, while Austin hasn't really been in touch with me. As it stands, I don't know enough to lean toward or away from the school, and I think that visiting in person will let me know if it feels right. I also look forward to visiting the city itself and meeting other program recruits m_pru 1
dazedandbemused Posted March 5, 2013 Posted March 5, 2013 Yeah I think it's a bit weird that I haven't heard anything substantial outside of flight arrangements and sandwich choices. Hopefully that gets addressed while we're there. I'm just really excited about so many scholars there, which is my main pull. That and the teaching. And the lack of snow. And the Mexican food, which Pittsburgh is almost completely devoid of.
brigadierpudding Posted March 6, 2013 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) Tired of getting e-mails about picking out your lunch? Just you wait: UT Austin's recruitment efforts will consist entirely of serving us the best sandwiches ever, resulting in 100% yield. No one can compete with damned good sandwiches. No one.
