I'm in, no money. Not going. I have to make a decision with my head and not with my heart. California, here we come !

That is a little strange! Sorry to hear that Pinkman

Still waiting on my end though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those waiting for the google group, someone started a SIPA 2013-2015 group on Facebook as well. There's not much on either, really though.

I'm in. I'm shaking so badly right now.

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS to traumerei! That's awesome that you were admitted to one of your top choices (I'm assuming..unless you are shaking in revulsion? :) ).

Second of all, the troll is trolling. It's what he does. He clearly gets off on making people upset and stirring the pot. He will also continue to come back to get his nasty little troll fix as long as he continues to get a reaction. So: stop responding to him! I recommend that we ignore him completely. Pretend his comments are invisible. If he insults someone/you, don't legitimize him by acknowledging the petty attempt.

Eventually he will get bored and wander off.

Tupacalypse, I completely agree!

To get back on track, anyone on here who was accepted definitely attending? I just accepted my offer and would love to know who else will be there. I unfortunately can't attend the Admitted Students Day so I would appreciate it if someone could report back.

congrats! don't listen to that troll.

sorry to hear that Pinkman, but I think Fletcher is a good option to have (I'm considering both).

Thank you! :) It was one of my top choices. Haha, I can't even imagine being disgusted by an acceptance letter. Those things are too psychologically satisfying.  I hope to meet you guys there!

A few posts removed.

Please don't feed the trolls. If you think someone is trolling, ignoring them is much, much better than continuing a protracted argument, dropping to their level, and making the whole thing a mess to clean up.

Thanks, Eigen! Apologies for feeding into it, but I'm glad the mods are on top of things. The Government Affairs forum has really been toxic this year.

Thanks! Yeah definitely, I'm happy with the results. Just a little confused by SIPA. Their letter was very personalized (I worked for one of their professors NGO and they were aware of that in the letter) but then to remark I needed some more work experience was very inconsistent lol

Fletcher is definitely a great school so I'm happy to have been accepted. Where are you leaning?

I'm in for the MIA! No money but I was expecting that since I'm applying straight from undergrad. So shocked, I will be choosing between this and the LSE MPA

Congrats! That's great! Can I ask what your background/"stats" are or how do you think you overcame the lack of full time work experience?

That's so weird. I'm convinced this whole process is nonsense haha. Originally I was leaning toward SIPA, but I realized I was more impressed with the Columbia name and staying in New York than the program itself. I'm leaning towards SAIS-Bologna, but Fletcher also gave me some money. I do think Fletcher is a great school, but I don't know if I want to live in Boston. Tough choices!

twenty-one, are you at all considering the MIA/MPA option with LSE? I considered that for awhile, ultimately I decided against it because I didn't think the LSE was a good fit for me. Just wondering!

Which concentration did you select in your application? I wonder if people who don't select political and economic development have a leg up.

Human rights.

Interesting observation. I picked Econ Development. A lot of MPA admits in the results forum.

Really bizarre. Perhaps ask for some feedback?

Thanks! It was completely unexpected because of my lack of WE... I'm terrified that it was just a computer glitch! I've done 2 full summers of Investment Banking internships, one of which was at a really competitive bank, as well as three volunteering trips (one month max. though). In my PS I explained why didn't want to go into Finance but talked about how much I'd learned from those experiences (esp since I'm interested in micro-credit, etc). I also talked about the specific organization I'd like to work for this summer, so maybe that showed that I was aware of my lack of WE but trying to catch up? I'm not sure....

I have a strong academic background from a top 5 UK university and I discussed my dissertation research (development economics) in my PS, but I didn't think that would be enough to compensate for the lack of 'real-world' experience given SIPA's reputation.

Do you mean the joint-degree in which you do one year at LSE and then apply to do your second at SIPA? In that case, I am considering it but apparently it's a completely separate application process so they don't take into account whether SIPA's accepted you before. Not sure if that's what you meant! I could risk it, but I also wonder if it would be better to get the 'full experience' at one institution rather than splitting my time between the two.

Congrats to everyone else who got in!

Yea, I meant the one year, one year. I agree, I ultimately didn't think splitting my time between the two was worthwhile as well as not thinking the LSE MPA was a good fit for me. I think unless the two programs you would do are really different, teaching you completely different skills you want like a MIA/JD or MIA/MBA, then it's better to get the full experience at one institution.

Not really sure why this thread is dead, but thought I'd point everybody that might be attending to the Columbia Meet and Greet thread.

I think it was all the trolling that did this thread in.

If that's considered trolling by our future classmates then we've got issues.
