I interviewed there this past weekend and the only interview dates that were given were Jan 23-25, and Feb 6-8. The last day to RSVP for the Feb interview was on Jan 27. Sorry that's all the info I have.

Damn.  Wish they would contact me.  Might be possible for on-the-fence people to get interviews after others refuse them?

Wow, BostonBio your stats are off the charts.  I use to thought my summer international experience, post-bac, some knowledge in computational biology, and being a first-generation, multi-ethnic background, liberal art school would give me the edge, but I was clearly wrong.

Thanks! I'll definitely be sticking around here for a while, even after I go to grad school  :)

I definitely think your personality matters too, BostonBio.

Anyone heading to the University of Rochester medical center this weekend?  How about UFlorida next weekend?

Is anyone still waiting to hear from UT Houston? I was told that the committee were meeting 2 weeks ago but no word yet. How strange...

Just got an email from Tufts ISP. They are reviewing applications and we'll know BY THE END OF MAY. Helpful.

By the end of May? I think most of us will already be moving by the end of May :o

Yeah and considering I'm going to probably have to make a decision by April 15 it's rather annoying.

I didn't apply there but I have decision deadlines that are April 15.  How can they wait till the end of May??

All I have in my spam is a set of emails wanting to help me combat my erectile dysfunction...I'm not a dude. <_<

There was some problem with gmail. Check your spam folder guys! I got an interview invite in my Junk.

I keep my spam folder clean every day for this reason. And before deleting all I read through senders names like a hawk! But still no news for me though! :(

So is it safe to say I am not going to grad school in the fall? That sucks. I literally feel like working an additional year will kill me (I've been working as a tech since July 2011). Any suggestions on how to fill the gap year other than working as a lab tech?

I have no idea. From what I gather, it's rolling. The rejections probably won't go out until late May. If I don't hear from them by April I'll probably withdraw my application.

Just called UT-Austin CMB, they are still working on sending out interview invites!  And not only that, but they're also considering additional interview methods (Skype) for students not invited to visit Austin.

Just got an interview invite for March 6 for one of my schools. Feeling horrible to say the least since I still have my top choices pending and this is the final interview weekend out there. WuSTL put me on a waitlist last week and told me I should hear back next week. How long do you think you can take at most to reply to an interview invitation? I was thinking if I wait until next Tuesday, it will be somewhat reasonable, but anything beyond that might be pushing my luck. What do you guys think, how long are you allowed you take to respond to an interview invite? (they didn't specify anything in their invitation)

What school did you get an interview invite from / what program?

It looks like you have 5 interviews at least, and you're already accepted to a program - I wouldn't feel horrible about that at all. Be proud of yourself!

I know. I just have this scenario in my head in which I accept the invitation and the next day my top school invites me for the same date. Sometimes you just want that rejection and move on...

 I completely understand.

How many interviews do you guys think is a safe amount to attend?  I am definitely going to 4 and am contemplating a fifth.  I have taken off a lot of work at this point and am wondering if a fifth interview would even be worth it if the school is on the lower end of my list.  Thanks!

Which one are you contemplating?]

I am not sure about the answer but I am wondering myself as well. I am wondering if I will have any options at the end of interview weekends. I am attending 5 but had to cancel on 3. I almost wish I could attend more so that I would have as many options as I could.

Hey guys, I'd appreciate some advice on a situation I've found myself in!

I recently attended the interview weekend for one of my top schools, and received my acceptance only a couple of days later. I love the program (like I said, going into this whole process, they were one of my top choices, and the interview weekend just reinforced that), but I still have four interviews left (this program was my first interview). I'm keeping an open mind during the interview process, and would still like to attend those interviews (especially since I've already made travel arrangements). My acceptance email asked me to give the program a general idea of where I am in the decision-making process, so (after thanking them, of course!) I was planning on mentioning that my last interview will be in early March, and that I would prefer to postpone my decision until then.

However, given how much I like this program, it seems like it might be a good idea to give some sort of indication that they're high up on my list. Would that be at all appropriate? And if so, what would be the best way to do it? Subtly, or in a more straightforward manner?

Thanks! =)

I don't think anyone here applied to UConn biochem but I'll post this anyway in case lurkers care:

Uconn doesn't do interviews. They are in the process of ranking applicants, then a decision will be posted on the ApplyYourself website. They anticipate they'll been done in 4-5 weeks.

Back to waiting for me. Haha

First off, Congratulations on getting in! You should enjoy this period, why is it that our neurotic brains somehow find a way to stress out about something

I think your approach is perfectly reasonable. The other programs have already gone to the expense of arranging your travel, and putting on those weekends is no joke either, logistically. It would be unfair to commit to this program before even attending the other interviews. Take them as an opportunity to remind yourself why you're making that decision.

Another point, (not your question but still worth noting) remember that even though you may choose another program, the other students you meet at interviews could be your colleagues/collaborators one day, and you may want to post-doc in a lab at one of these places. So these trips can be tremendously valuable for learning about the topology of the field and the personalities involved. Also, this means that you don't want to burn any bridges!

It's perfectly reasonable to say you were very impressed with the program, and could see yourself happy as a student there, but it's not necessary to make the final call until you've finished your slate of interviews. They won't rescind your offer, so relax  ^_^
