Gladiatrix77 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Does anyone know anything about Brandeis University? I am really interested in working with one of the archaeologists there, and I like that it is a research program. I am curious about assistantships, the difference between applying to a research program vs. course-based (pros and cons), what to expect when applying to research program vs. a course-based one - things of that nature. Also, if I get into an MA program that does not require the GRE, will I still have to take the GRE if I come back to the United States for my PhD?
Conscia Fati Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Penn's committee has met, or so I've heard. Good luck everyone! ΧΕΛΩΝΗ and Furcifera 2
BTKOU Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Penn's committee has met, or so I've heard. Good luck everyone! Yeah. I didn't apply there, but a few of my friends were invited to do Skype interviews.
kingharvest Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Do you know whether they've done all of the graduate groups under classics or just Classical Studies?
ΧΕΛΩΝΗ Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Hello, everyone! Long-time lurker, newly joined. January is a long, cold month of too much waiting! Did hear a bit of good news, though - I got an interview at Penn! Furcifera 1
janeiro Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Congrats to everyone hearing good news! I received an email from my POI at Stanford, asking a bit about my research. I suppose that's a good sign? Otherwise, this wait is killing me.
ΧΕΛΩΝΗ Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Congrats to everyone hearing good news! I received an email from my POI at Stanford, asking a bit about my research. Furcifera Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 And none are on gradcafe? Dang. Or if you're lurking, Berkeley admits, submit your results for posterity. Think of the children.
BTKOU Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Berkeley admits are out (via email). Do you know if this includes Classical Archaeology?
comicline865 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Hmm, no I'm not sure. This was for "Classics" (language, literature, philosophy, etc.)
ΧΕΛΩΝΗ Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Anyone care to claim Berkeley posts in the results section?
comicline865 Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 (edited) Whoops--I thought it was clear I was claiming one. So it's "validated." Edited January 18, 2014 by Starbuck Furcifera 1

Furcifera Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Haha, sorry for accidentally calling you out on not posting results, Starbuck... I thought you just had insider information or something; didn't realize you were an admit. Huge congratulations on UC-B!
comicline865 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 No need to apologize. I was a bit surprised at how early it came--but pleasantly so!
comicline865 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Congrats to everyone hearing good news! I received an email from my POI at Stanford, asking a bit about my research. I suppose that's a good sign? Otherwise, this wait is killing me. Janeiro, is that you who reported "interview view email" on results?
chaoticody Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Hi, everyone. I've been a lurker but finally joined. I'm one of the Wisconsin admits that were posted recently. Still waiting on the others. ΧΕΛΩΝΗ and Furcifera 2
janeiro Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Janeiro, is that you who reported "interview view email" on results? Nope. I had questions about that myself.
comicline865 Posted January 19, 2014 Posted January 19, 2014 Huh, yeah. I'm not even sure what that means. It doesn't seem like an interview could be "via email."
Furcifera Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Pretty sure that means they were invited via email to do the interview, and not that email is the mode of the interview. Could definitely be wrong, though.
alpheratz Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 I agree with Frucifera on the wording of "interview via email." Hnurgh, heard back from a POI who nicely told me, "I read your application. Looks great. Except you're gonna get screwed by Greek, you know that, right? Adcom's not going to like the fact that you only have two years." Oh well. Whoosh go my hopes! (But really...I do western medieval. I know I only had two years of Greek, but I was still holding out hope based on the fact that I've been taking graduate level courses in Latin since I was a junior in college. Time for a post-bacc, I guess?)
ΧΕΛΩΝΗ Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 Those of you who've been invited to interview -- how are you feeling? I'm nervous!
