Hello

I am international student who applied to MSc Petroleum Engineering program in U of Alberta.

I had an interview through Skype in the early March, and the atmosphere was good I think.

The professor said I would get the result at most within March, but still haven't received answer yet.

Since he asked me to respond to his answer regarding admission(haven't got it though) until early April, waiting is getting more stressful and I'm also getting nervous!!

Does this kind of things commonly happen? Please give me some advice.. :(

Hello

When did you submit your final application to the department?

I don't think I've seen many people (any really) going for Simon Fraser University, but I'm starting their master's program in Criminology in the fall.

received admission to UBC, Toronto, and Queen's for Economics. Generous funding from Toronto (reg stream) and Queen's (offered doctoral), a smaller package of mostly TAing from UBC. Having an impossible time deciding. Why do they want us to reply so soon?? (March 31st) Some international programs haven't even made their offers yet! I only found out i got into one of my programs at Oxford yesterday

That's really weird; it was my understanding individuals generally had until April 15th to decide. I would look into that farther if I were you.

i think the april 15th deadline is for admissions and not funding. i think if i delayed my decision past the deadline they gave me they might still admit me but withdraw my funding offer.

Also, these are canadian schools---none of them have mentioned or seem to follow the april 15th deadline. should i even bring that up with them?

Congrats redrose27, that is an impressive list of acceptances. :)

Hello everyone!

I applied to MA of Political Science programs at Carleton, York and UofT. I heard back from Carleton sooner than I thought but apparently they do not give any funding or RA/TA roles to international students. That's why I declined the offer. Did anyone hear back from UofT or York Pol Sci departments? I can imagine that the recent strikes affected the decision process but I feel like it would be nice to hear at least something.

Thank you! It makes deciding that much harder though. I'd probably choose Oxford if it wasn't for the incredibly steep price (estimated around 70-80 grand). stuck now between toronto and queen's mostly

I got into Lakehead's HBSW yesterday! Not a masters but it's a post-degree program so I figured it was cool to post here. Anyone else get into the Thunder Bay campus? Everyone on the social work thread seems to have gotten into Orillia, would be awesome to chat to anyone else who heard from TBay!

Congrats! I've been waitlisted for the HBSW program at Thunder Bay and I am really hoping to get in! Does anyone know anyone who's gotten into the program from the waitlist? Does that happen often?

I don't know how many people get in from the waitlist, but I assume there'll be at least a few (though, the Thunder Bay program is a lot smaller so its hard to say how many). I do know I have to have decided by April 24th, so if that happens it may still be a few weeks from now. I assume lots of us who applied to the HBSW also applied to other schools for both BSWs and MSWs, and I know a lot of people applied to BSWs as back up. So, when/if those people get into MSWs they will probably decline the HBSW. But since U of T is still releasing decisions, Laurier hasn't released any, it would probably still be a bit of time before waitlist movement.

Good luck, hope you hear good news!

I heard back from the Political Science Department at UofT (for the PhD program) on March 10th in an e-mail from Carolynn Branton. So I would suggest e-mailing her for more information.

I actually received my acceptance for UofT this morning! Will probably decline though since I don't think I can afford it without financial support.

I checked in at UW over 2 weeks ago (March 12) and they said it should be a 'couple more weeks' before we hear back. I think that's because OGS announcements are April 1/2. Good luck everyone!

Anyone knows if Wilfrid Laurier PhD Geography application results are going to be out anytime soon?

Posted

Has anyone heard back from the Environment and Resource Studies department at University of Waterloo? I have not heard anything regarding my PhD application and my status on Quest has not changed either. And no one replied to my email query. Should I contact the POI instead?

I saw on the results page that 1 person has been accepted via email on 1st of April.

Do you have a time-specific fellowship/award? At York, I was on a deadline to accept by a specific date because the department needed enough time to forward off my candidacy for an award - if you haven't been offered anything more than the standard funding package, I don't see why the institutions that you're considering would need a decision because of funding before a specific date. If you do have a time-specific award, there's nothing that can be done, usually, but otherwise, I'd e-mail them and ask them for an extension, this usually isn't a problem.

I've already gotten extensions twice from each of the schools, I don't think they'll extend me any further :( and yes all of the offers have some sort of funding attachment (SSHRC at queen's and ubc, entrance award at toronto). still waiting on one program for admission, and oxford  won't release its funding information until later this month and may. damnit i wish these schools would do a better job of coordinating between them

I was accepted to the Lakehead HBSW but won't be attending. I'd imagine that there will be movement on the wait list in the next few weeks! Sending good vibes your way!

Yeah, I can imagine that a further extension would be problematic. :(

Congrats on your awards. At least for SSHRC you have some time before you have to officially decide. It's unfortunate that European schools don't seem to care about anyone else's deadlines, especially because these schools accept international students pretty readily.

I got my initial yes from the program coordinator at McMaster for Rehabilitation Science....just waiting on the final (hopefully) yes from the School of Graduate Studies *checks email for the twentieth time for the morning*

Help me speculate wildly: my status just changed from "application forwarded for review" to "file forwarded to department." Promising? University of Victoria, if that matters.

It means exactly what it said - your file was just now forwarded to the department for review. So the department will be looking over the applications as opposed to the initial admit office. My UVic acceptance came in way later than all of the other schools I applied to when I was applying for my MA.

I figured, but given how ridiculously long this is taking I had hoped it might be code for something else. Ah well.
