Anyone here (other than Bluefit because I remember ya from before :) ) applying for the second or more time ? Anyone have any guesses on when they will notify us this year !?

This is my second time applying.  I applied to Moldova last year and was selected as an alternate.  I applied with the same research proposal, but with stronger affiliation letters and additional experience - so fingers crossed!

I am hoping that we are notified as early as last year, but since last year was the earliest notification in recent history I am guessing that we will have to wait a bit longer.

I applied last year, too! Glad I'm not alone. :) I was an alternate to Sweden for the 2015-2016 cycle. This year, for whatever insane reason, I decided to apply for the Fulbright-National Geographic Fellowship instead of the academic/research. My fingers are crossed hoping they'll send out notifications this Friday. Although I did read somewhere on here that Nat Geo and Clinton applicants get a letter the same day saying they have to wait another month to find out... Not too thrilled about that idea.

So good to hear about multiple applications. I didn't put it in my essays but maybe I should have. Hopefully it will work out this time around! Anyone else applying to the Clinton Fulbright Fellowship?

Wow Good luck ! That is so exciting !!! was the Nat Geo application a lot harder than the research application ? Did you propose to work in Sweden again ? I know someone who was a finalist last year for Fulbright Nat Geo. I am so interested in that application but never had the guts. Have you ever considered a National Geographic Explorer/Young Explorer grant ? After 4 Fulbright applications I was finally granted a NGYE grant this fall. Might be something to look into as well !

Thank you!! I personally think Nat Geo was more difficult... mainly because there are more components to the application. I did propose to work in Sweden again as well as Norway and Finland this time.
Congratulations!!! That's amazing! I have looked into the NGYE grant and definitely want to apply. I was going to apply for it around the same time I did Fulbright, but I figured I would wait and see how the Fulbright-Nat Geo one worked out first. Who knows! Exciting stuff for sure!

I'm so glad I found this forum! Applied to the NatGeo Fulbright, too.

Nice! What are you proposing to do/what countries are you hoping to work in?

How did your advisor know? Was he part of the committee reading the applications or something?

I got to a college that produces many Fulbright scholars and my advisor is in touch with "reliable sources". I'm certain we're hearing back this Friday, January 15th.

Out of curiosity, is there a difference between semi-finalist and finalist (I thought there were only finalists, after which is the official decision)?

Also, does everyone (all countries) receive finalist notification on the same day?

No, but this year my adviser mentioned that they were changing the naming of the title for this stage. If you move onto the next round you will be called a "semi-finalist" . If you move on to the final round after interviews you are now a finalist.

Do they say this whether you are semifinalst or finalist in the email notification to you?

I thought only certain countries interviewed applicants that were recommended by IIE. Is this changing this year?

We will all hear by email at the same time for this round.

Yupp, my adviser sent me an email too. "All students will receive status updates Friday, January 15th."

Well, this will either motivate me to try to finish as much of this chapter as possible by Friday so I can either celebrate or drown my sorrows depending on the news or will completely derail productivity.  Good thing I've got a deadline for the chapter for the following Friday. :/  Good luck to us all!

Omg that's crazy! Do you know if that's for all Fulbright or just certain grants?

i'm on vacation visiting my grandparents and I'm going to be such a wreck on Friday! I just warned them in advanced incase that's when we do find out hahaha

Welp, there go my productivity levels for tomorrow and Friday. I also was under the impression that only certain countries interviewed. Has that changed then, with the new semi-finalist/finalist distinction?

So much love and light to everyone on here, checking this thread was a godsend since all of my friends banned me from even saying the word "Fulbright". Good luck to everyone :)

if its like last year we will all find out at the same time for the recommended round.

As for interviews I can't say. Although I am assuming its only specific countries still and not all.
