Regarding FAFSA, you don't need to wait for your W-2, you can estimate your income and tax based on last year paper. You can submit the form now and re-visit FAFSA after you have filed tax to enter the  accurate tax data. I submitted my FAFSA on Sunday night and it was processed and approved on Monday morning. But don't forget to go back to the website after you have your 2015 tax info.

I don't know if this is true for all schools, but at my undergraduate institution I was advised that any changes made to the FAFSA will bump you down the list for need-based aid, since they end up receiving two copies and go by the date of the most recent submission.

The thing is, graduate schools don't really offer need-based aid--they offer you need-based loans and some federal work study based on the FAFSA. But essentially, my understanding is the merit scholarship is the only grant you're going to get. Most everyone going to grad school is poor ;)

I did submit my FAFSA last week, probably around the same time you did. I don't really think they do non-merit scholarship, with the exception of some work study.

I did indicate interest in work-study on my FAFSA.  I have heard of students negotiating for better offers, but I'm not sure I would know where to begin.  Oh well.  Still pretty exciting!

Exactly.  Need-based grants (like Pell) ended with undergrad. That's why I'm not getting the obsession with submitting the FAFSA before doing taxes.  I'm going to try to do some consulting/freelance work to pay some of my living expenses, but loans are inevitable.

I wasn't asking about grants.  I was mainly worried that delays with submitting the FAFSA may result in not being offered work-study, assistantships, etc. as those kinds of awards are usually pretty limited.

From what I know an assistantship program is being offered by the schools themselves not FAFSA. Likewise when you file FAFSA doesn't affect your chance of getting assistantship. Like Fordham for instance when I attended their info-session the admissionns told us that the call for assistantship applicants will come with their email informing you of your financial aid from the School. But you are right that this is limited and that is why once you receive the email from the School, you should apply for the assistantship immediately.

From the WUSTL MSW website https://msw.wustl.edu/apply/timeline/

Financial Aid Package: Determined 3-4 weeks after admissions offer if FAFSA has been submitted (guess I better do my taxes now).

Federal Work Study Awarded: After May 1st.

On a related note: I am really excited to see on the results page that another career changer/older student was admitted to WUSTL as well.

Just received my acceptance to NYU 2-year program. I was SHOCKED because I literally sent my application in on Saturday and already heard back.

Good Luck Everyone :)

How long does it take the admissions to notify you? When did you submit your application? Thank you!

Wow, that is the quickest turn around time I've ever heard. Impressive! I submitted my application to NYU last Friday. I hope to hear back from them soon. By the way, I have been stalking NYU admission and see that on their calendar they have scheduled a webinar meeting for accepted msw students on March 8. Thus, I think all MSW Fall 2016 decisions are to be made last week of February the latest.

2-year program

That's a crazy fast acceptance. Awesome, though! I'm hoping to hear back from them soon.

I just submitted my apps to the Fordham Online MSW and the Columbia Online MSW, and I'm so eager to hear back!  (I have solid academic background, an M. Ed in Psych already, but it was YEARS ago!!). We'll see how they regard "more mature" applicants! Anyone have any insight into the Simmons or USC online MSW programs?

Are there any other applicants to UCLA MSW around here?

Rather, has anyone attempted to ask UCLA admissions about when they'll announce decisions? :P

Alright, well I'm somewhat glad to hear I'm not alone in that regard!

According to previous cycles on the Results Search page, we may get some news from UCLA in the latter half of February. Patience truly is a virtue.

I looked at that earlier too.  I think UCLA is going to take the longest.  I also have SDSU pending and they said by March 1.

Berkeley hasn't communicated with me at all either, but I have such low expectations of being admitted that I keep forgetting I applied there!

I heard back from Chicago SSA last Friday. I applied on January 10.

I haven't heard back from Michigan SSW, except for an email sent today confirming my complete application. I applied on January 10 but I also applied to a special program, so perhaps I'll hear back soon.

Hmm that makes me feel a little concerned. I haven't heard back from Chicago and I applied around 11/28. They said they'd be notifying this week so we'll see but I don't know that it bodes well for me, especially with scholarship consideration.
