Schwarzwald Posted April 3, 2016 Posted April 3, 2016 Wait...so Do we have to decided by April 15 in the sense that at 11:59AM April 14, financial offers are no longer guaranteed, or are we to decide by April 15 in the sense that on April 16th, all offers will be susceptible to retraction? Scroop 1

Contact your school(s) to determine the exact deal, but I asked for UCSB and they said I'd have to commit via the online portal by 11:59 pm April 15th. They said that waiting until midnight or later (IE April 16) would potentially put my funding in jeopardy. I hope this helps!
currentphilgrad Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 Oh my god! I'm not going to say what school it is because I don't want them to find me on here (even though the uniqueness of the situation makes it pretty easy to identify). One of my top choice schools originally rejected me and today they contacted me and said nevermind, you're on the waitlist! I know it's just the waitlist, but I'm pretty excited. thatsjustsemantics Posted April 5, 2016 Posted April 5, 2016 I'm currently waitlisted for funding at Oklahoma and NIU. I'm not really sure if I'll make it off the waitlist at either school. If not, I'll be applying again next to year (probably only to MA programs this time). I'm really hoping for NIU, just because they're fairly open about their program success and the professors seem nice; but Oklahoma looks like a great program too. I'm just very suspicious of the notion of 'fit,' and although there are some significant differences between both schools that I could factor in, I just can't care for them; I want to go where I'll be happy and achieve my goals, but you can't predict that. NIU is a better fit given my interests and strengths, but who's to deny that I could branch out at OU and strike underdeveloped potential? In any case, I just wish it was April 15th already.
Scroop Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Waitlisted for funding at Colorado State, Western Michigan, and Ohio University. Reeeeaaalllllyyyy hoping for an offer from Colorado ?
Dialectica Posted April 7, 2016 Posted April 7, 2016 Anyone care to speculate why some waitlsts aren't seeming to move as the result of recent applicants declining their offers? I know that some folks have been admitted off both the Indiana and Syracuse waitlists this season, yet, after some recent offer rejections, there seems to be nothing by way of offers made off the waitlists. Should we just chalk this up to people not having a presence on GradCafe?

Up to date, very many initially admitted students in top programs haven't made decisions yet, partly because several top programs set very late visiting days. E.g, Harvard is April 11-14.

The departments funding doesn't come until the last week in March, then they make their decisions.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure either of these replies gets at my original question, though I appreciate the input. @Davidspring You make a good point. However, I was specifically interested in the lack of movement from programs where some of their initial offers have been declined; and what makes it more mysterious to me, at least in the cases of Indiana and Syracuse, is that there has been movement on some waitlists already this season, but not recently, despite some recent rejected offers from those programs. @psm1580b That's very interesting about Indiana (HPS), though I'm interested in the non-HPS program at Indiana, where their process seems to clearly differ. Oh yeah, many programs initially admitted more students than the number of students they can have. This is the main reason why they are not able to admit students off their waitlist, even though many students have declined their offers. To address your second question, I suspect there are many students like me who got an offer from Syracuse but still cannot make decisions, since we are waitlisted in more highly ranked programs. That was my worry initially, and I suspect that's true of a good handful of programs. But what makes it especially puzzling is that there has been movement on some waitlists already, but not recently despite some recent rejected offers; that doesn't make sense to me if they admitted more than they can accept. I hope what I've said is clear. I'm sort of shooting from the hip here.

But you'd better shoot a message to such programs and see if they can clarify your situation. Edited April 8, 2016 by Davidspring
dgswaim Posted April 8, 2016 Posted April 8, 2016 For anyone that might be waiting on UPenn WL, like me, I got an email from Samuel Freeman saying he thinks they might have more info concerning wait list offers and such within the next 3 days or so. peco 1

dgswaim Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 @kant_get_in, have you heard from UC Davis yet? Millstein emailed me a rejection last night, and I'm just thinking it might be a good sign if you've still not heard.

Kel Varnsen Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 To the people on the Indiana wait list: I believe I'm the last offer holder who may not accept. If you make it off the wait list, it'll be for my spot. Just wanted to say that I'm waiting at least until Friday afternoon to get off the Columbia wait list... Dialectica 1
