I was hoping to get a glimpse into what others had wrote. I talked about the alarming rates of suicide in the trans community and how the bottleneck to access care and lengthy wait times add to the crisis, and what social workers can to do aid in the process (they can - as of March 16' - act as a second referral source for surgery which is huge). I like! I talked about compassion fatigue in mental health workers and how to support them sososocialwork, MSW-hopeful-2016 and 2017hoping 3

At first I was trying to trim down the 5 pages I had for UofT and use it for WLU, but then I realized that it wasn't the flow or structure that it should have. Had to re-write the whole thing! Your social issue sounds very interesting, was it for your applications this year? Yes, I had to write four statements so going from the first one I did up to 8 pages was difficult. And then from that 8 pages I only had certain sections that were relevant for the other two and had to add other information in. So I basically started from scratch all the outlines like you did too because I realized all the flows were different but then plugged in certain paragraphs that worked that I already worked out. That's a good issue to discuss as there has been more information being shared on supports and needs of first nation communities. Yeah, I"m not sure how my issue will be read by the committee's but there's been a whole shift towards community inclusion for mental health and developmental needs, which of course is what we strive for, but the government isn't giving any guidance on how to transform current work training programs, with current funding, to meet the needs of our clients. Anyways, we shall see. Happy writing in the next few days for the 15th I"m sure it's great!

2017hoping Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 (edited) On my York application it still just says No Decision Yet - will that be changed to Under Review when they are going over it or just stay that way until they have a decision? Does anybody else applying to York have the same thing? All the other sites for me say Under Department Review or Reviewing your application. Edited January 14, 2017 by 2017hoping

For all applicants to York MSW program, you will receive a confirmation email that tells you either you are accepted or on wait-list by Mid-February. Emma Pascal is usually the one sends that email and she will also tell you how much funding package you will get ( between 9k to 15k). Your online status wouldn't change until you accept the offer. If you application is unsuccessful, your status will change to " unsuccessful" before the end of June. If you have any question in regard to York's application, funding package or MSW courses/ research paper/placement, please feel free to chat with me Hoping only the best for you and your success at York MSW !!

Sorry to hear that about your application last year I applied to York and U of T around 5 years ago, 1 or two years after finishing my BSW and didn't get in. So I"m hoping the work experience will improve my application with the resume and also be reflected in the written statement. Did you re-apply this year or are attending another program? 3 hours ago, YWEANG said: For all applicants to York MSW program, you will receive a confirmation email that tells you either you are accepted or on wait-list by Mid-February. Thanks YWEANG! Yes, that makes sense. I do have a question about the funding package you mentioned - what do you mean about 9k or 15k? I thought it was a couple thousand each semester? Or does that mean applying for grant's or scholarships? I'm not counting on getting into York as I know so few get in so I did also apply to three others for their distance program - but thanks for the encouragement! At the time I figured I should apply to one program in the city as that would be convenient for me. MSW&MD 1

You will receive a funding package either says 9k or 15k ; you will get 3k each semester ( The school will deduct them directly from your tuition fees and give you whatever that left after your tuition payment) . 15k funding package includes 6k entrance scholarship in addition to the 9k program funding which everyone gets once they get into the program. York's tuition is about 6k in total in comparison to u of t's 12k for one year MSW program, but since u of t is an elite oriented school, high tuition fee should not be a challenging issue for most students there. Perhaps that is one important reason why this school severely lacks of racial diversity ( except some Chinese and Jewish women). kiki14, MSW-hopeful-2016, SW15 and 4 others 7

I should have clarified my application was for York's Two-Year program, the One-Year could be different. However, I'm sure the work experience you have gained since your last application will definitely boost the odds in your favour! I wish you the best of luck getting into where ever you hope to be. I had no luck with any of the schools I applied to last year unfortunately, but was applying to the Two- Year programs so limited options I reapplied this year, plus Lakehead's One- Year BSW, so hopefully something works out! 1 hour ago, YWEANG said: Don't get discouraged! Yes, I was thinking it would be around 6,000 for the one year program. That's pretty much what I"m expecting to pay give or take a few more thousand if I go elsewhere too (U of Calgary, Dalhousie and U of Victoria) since I would need to travel once a year for those. I'm sorry but this is just rude, 75%+ of U of T MSW's are on OSAP like everyone else. I'm in the program, I'm white, I'm 70k in debt and of the dozens of friends I have in the program I know of 2 whose parents paid their way through, everyone else is either taking student loans or working outside of school to pay for it. Many people are stretched very thin as they can't afford to go to school without working part-time or in some cases even full time. My 2 best friends in the program are members of visible minorities not mentioned by you, the program is definitely predominantly white but we certainly have more than "some chinese and jewish women". Also, I find you posting in this forum generally unpleasant as you make everyone who is currently in the U of T program uncomfortable after last year when you attended events that were for U of T students only, and then proceeded to add every female in the program on Facebook and creepily message them and comment on their stuff.
