rejection before acceptance?

How do you know? Source it. ;)

The order goes by  rejection letter- first round acceptance letter- second round acceptance letter- waitlist letter :)

How do I know this? social work is a small field and you will  find friends in every sector, including school admission office :)

Got a status update for MSW- 2 years from York. Did not get in, it said "Reviewed/Unsuccessful".  Wasn't thinking I was gonna get it regardless, very competitive as my GPA is average-ish. attached a photo of how it looks like.

I am really sorry to hear this, good luck with your BSW advanced standing application, I am sure you will make it..... York two year  MSW usually receives over 500 applications every year and has only 20 spots, but the program was talking about to expand it to 40 before 2020.....

Does anyone know when Ryerson U sends out responses, and if there is a way to find out online if you're accepted?

The graduate office will call you to confirm!! Ryerson sends out offers from mid of March until the end of April... but that was in 2014 when I applied. Things may have been changed since.

I'm surprised that they have sent out the two year M.S.W decision before the advanced standing decisions.  I am sorry you didn't get in and I hope you get the advanced standing B.S.W.  Good luck!

I'm sorry about your application.  I am not expecting to get accepted there as well (I applied for advance standing, 1 year program, part-time) as my overall GPA is pretty close to their line (perhaps a better final two years though).  I was actually going to ask others if their GPA was in the high 3's or low 3's - although I understand the other components will be ranked too.  I wish you all the best with your other applications and social work goals!  (and will check out my account now too....)

The first round acceptance should be on Feb 10th to 12th depending on the volume of this year's applications. You will receive an  email from the admission office if you are accepted or on the wait list.. the second wave of acceptance is between April and June after some students declined their offers, in such case, the school will call you and let you know that you are off from the wait list.  Good Luck!!

Hi there! I'm new here. I've been following the group since I submitted my app to U of T. The majority of the posts are very helpful, thank you all for sharing this information.

I applied for the advanced standing MSW program at U of T - 1st choice part time, 2nd choice full time. Does anyone know how many people were accepted into the part time advanced standing stream last year?

Hello all, long time lurker! I'm in my fourth year of my BSW program, and I've applied for the advanced standing programs at University of Toronto, York University, and Ryerson. I am very passionate about anti-oppressive practice, and critical social work,a and social policy. I applied to the UofT Social Justice and Diversity stream, but I heard that for the most part UofT is pretty clinical.

I know that within social work, where you go is not super important in terms of reputation, but I plan on doing my PhD later... do you think that should matter?

YWEANG - I was wondering about the York program (I applied to 1 year advanced standing part-time): do a lot of your classmates have work experience or did they go into it right after school?  I assume the background of two year students may be a bit different than the 1 year program?

Hi YWEANG, does this apply to 1 or 2 year MSW applicants?

I am really sorry about that. Have you tried McGill? They take into consideration a lot of other factors than just GPA.

Good luck for the second option.

For one year program, about 80 percent of my peers had at least two years of work experience. For one year part-time program, 100 percent of them worked full time while attending the school ( you don't get the funding package if you are in the part-time program ).

I don't know the exact number but I heard that you can always transfer to part-time program once you get in. I applied for both part-time and full-time but got into the full-time only.

Do you want to do your PHD in social work or other related fields ( sociology, philosophy, education, JD etc... ) I would suggest you go to u of t because of its international reputation ( especially if you apply for schools in States) and better research funding.

In the meantime, to help you with any questions about your program or the University, visit your specific program website.

I look forward to having you join the graduate community at York.

Sincerely,

To all York applicants, if you receive the above email in the next two weeks , congratulations !!! if you get the email below, don't worry, you will still have a chance get off from the waitlist until August 31!!

Dear MSW Applicant:

You have been recommended for admission into our full-time Advanced Standing MSW program @ York University but unfortunately, we do not have a spot for you at this time. We have put you on a wait-list. Please note that if a spot does open up for you, your admission offer will come with a $9000 funding package.

If you would like to decline your spot on the wait-list, please email poscae@yorku.ca we will remove your name. Unless you decline, you will stay on our wait-list until either a spot is offered to you or until August 31, 2015.

Unfortunately, we're unable to answer queries regarding when, or if, you will be offered admission.

Thank you again for your interest in our MSW program.

Cheers,
