2017 Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 So I had a Skype interview with a program today and after the interview, I noticed somebody posted that they received an acceptance from the same subfield and program in the results forum. The professors told me during the interview that decisions were made with the entire committee and that I would find out in two weeks, but apparently this isn't the case, according to this post. Should I assume I've been silently rejected?
fuzzylogician Posted January 25, 2017 Posted January 25, 2017 I don't know what that post is about, but since all departments I know make their decisions as a collective, I would assume that you were told the truth and there is still a chance. The only reason I can imagine someone finding out earlier is if they were targeted by the department from some university-level fellowship with an early submission date; those things do happen. But otherwise, I think usually all the decisions are made at the same time, and by the department as a whole. 2017 1

Fuzzylogician is correct, they told me that I was awarded a university-wide fellowship that had an early acceptance date. So keep heart, you're still in the running! 2017 1

It is not wrong to try, I was also told Berkeley was very difficult, especially with funding even if you do get in. I hope you get good news from other places!
lingg Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 (edited) Hi there! So I have this situation that I haven't received interview notices from NYU and Berkeley - though apparently a lot of people have received that and have already been interviewed. But after seeing a lot of rejections and acceptances from Berkeley on the results board, I'm still not receiving anything from them (and nothing happened to my online application system). So should I email my POIs to ask about my application status and the interviews? Or is my chance of getting in already low if I haven't received anything at this stage? :/ Thanks a lot!! Why not write an email to your POI or to the Graduate Coordinator? Most POIs will be responsive to such inquiries. It might not be a good sign but nothing is certain now. I do know some departments that are slow in notifying their applicants. I once had an interview with my POIs and had not heard from them for three weeks after that interview. Later I saw someone posting an offer in the Results Feed and I emailed one of the POIs. He told me that I was not admitted and he thought I should have been notified by the department. I do hope there is good news! Good luck.

Kippeum Posted January 30, 2017 Posted January 30, 2017 Hi all! I've been following along but haven't posted yet. I had an "unofficial interview" with my POI at UC Santa Cruz during the first week of January and I thought it went well... but I haven't heard back yet and when I emailed her thanking her for the interview afterwards I received no reply. Should I be concerned?

songofgallifrey Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 (edited) It looks like several people were contacted on Saturday to invite them to the Stanford open house! I'm happy that some folks have been hearing from them, but also nervous that this does not bode well for my application. Edit: Wondering if they're troll posts because "university" is spelled incorrectly in a few of them (?) Edited January 31, 2017 by songofgallifrey

Sorry for the doubt! It's definitely possible that not all of the invites have gone out yet, perhaps reach out to one of your POIs? Best of luck =)
songofgallifrey Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 @nts thank you for clarifying! I just saw some people discussing troll posts on a different thread and was worried, but it makes me feel better to hear that they're real congratulations, that's awesome!

One of those was mine, and I just noticed that I too spelled university wrong! lol. But in the past it seems not all invites were sent at the same time, so don't lose hope yet!
songofgallifrey Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 @2017 congrats! and thank you, I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
joshisanonymous Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 I noticed a couple Stanford applicants on the results page expressing confusion over the "Official Document Requests" thing that suddenly showed up on the application status page at Stanford this past week. I just talked to someone in the linguistics department there and it seems that is not an actual request for those documents so there's no need to pay the fee to send them if your checklist doesn't show that they're missing.
cubitl Posted January 31, 2017 Posted January 31, 2017 Has anyone heard anything (decision, interview, open house, etc.) from UC Davis?

Thanks, the wait list post on the Results Search is mine. I received the email this morning at 6:00 a.m. The application status checklist website still says "under review" for my application too, even though I did get the waitlist notification. I guess being waitlisted does mean it's still technically under review. I'm hoping a spot will open up! Good luck to you, too! Edited February 1, 2017 by cubitl clarification
