@gradwannabe & Jesteem: Niiiiice! Really amazing choices. Congrats!

Thank you!

Well, my last interview is with Yale in late March. If I get in both, I'll decide between the two. Both are my number one choices.

Still nothing from NYU ITP, I think it's not going well for me. I haven't even got an interview! But, hey! You've already got in MIT! It's gotta be your pick, right?

I went ahead and emailed NYU, this is what they said:

"Please be patient a bit longer -- we expecting the Tisch Admissions Office to begin notifying our applicants of the decisions this week. They should be going out by email shortly."

I'm trying to be zen about the whole thing and weigh all the options carefully. MIT is of course my first pick, but there are a couple factors (the distance, the money - I haven't seen their funding offer yet) that are unfortunately making me hesitate...

Bizarre. Just got accepted to MassArt and I totally asked them to withdraw my application for summer 2D...so they submitted it to Photo instead. Just got the phone call. I told them I can't move to Boston...but, they were really nice! rolleyes.gif Oh, well.

Some good news and a lot of rejections... my updated list as of 3/16 (MFA in Painting/Drawing or similar):

Accepted:

SFAI (mail 3-15) - have yet to receive funding info

Rejected:

Univ. of Washington (mail 3-6? ish)

UCLA (email 3-13)

PNCA (mail 3-16)

SAIC (mail 3-10? ish)

No Word:

RISD

Columbia

(Although I'm pretty sure of a rejection on both of these)

I guess I'm moving to San Francisco! :)

Congrats, Michelle! Wish I applied to SFAI instead of CCA..Oh well..Good luck, I'm sure you'll love it :)

Did they interview people? Did anyone get an interview? Why would they email some and not others... weird...

Thats what I was thinking too, it is weird that:

A) they dont do interviews

B) send out rejections at different times

I haven't heard from them or USC...

For somewhere that doesn't do interviews I guess no news is good news...but for USC...no news means you aren't on the list...

What are the odds? 10 prgrams, 1 interview, 1 acceptance. SIGH. Looks like I'm going to SFAI for Sculpture!! Couldn't be happier!

Weird part: they sent my acceptance letter to the address I was living at in summer of '08 when I first requested info from the school. WEIRD. My friend's mom had to call to tell me. Need to confirm/give 'em $ by March 30.

I haven't heard from MICA or RISD definitively, but heard sculpture interviews are over.

No word from Cranbrook, SFSU.

Rej via online status from CCA Sculpture yesterday, from VCU a while back.

Rej via letter: SAIC, CalArts, Indiana University (SoFA).

Signing off then, and pondering the move from Baltimore to SanFran.

I got my ucla rejection today too. I'm still waiting from RISD Digital Media, but I suspect that one is a no. I have a couple other schools on my list still, but it looks like I'm probably choosing between CCA and SFAI. I really wish I would get the rest of the decisions so I can just decide and plan!

I have to decide between SFAI and CCA too. I think I got into an LA school (still waiting for the official letter) and if I did, I will go there...but if I don't, I need to decide between one of those SF schools too. Pretty hard decision to decide between the two. are you having that same problem of indecision?

Recently stumbled across this amazing forum.

I have an interview with Yale on March 26th for the MFA Graphic Design program.

Anyone out there with any information, tips, and or best practices for interviewing?

I'm getting kinda nervous.

How did you hear?

I haven't heard a peep from them since I sent in my app by mail...starting to wonder if they never even got it.

Boooo! That's pretty frigan late. VCU seems to be on the same timetable for Photo. They are still doing interviews....lol. I just interviewed with them this week. Gooodness...They better step on it before they lose people.

Buck up, kid. You got interviews at two of the most prestigious, hard-to-get-into schools in the country (columbia and yale). I got rejected from both - I'd have loved to have been in yr shoes. Not bad for a recent undergrad - and most importantly, yr work is fantastic. And as we all know - the east coast rules. Way better to be in NYC than in LA.

I also am not sure which one I want to go to...I am leaning towards CCA. I'm planning to visit both next week. I'd be interested in hearing any of your thoughts for sure. What programs did you get into? I was accepted to CCA Interdisciplinary and SFAI Painting.

I didn't make the cut at Yale either... I think there are around 1,175 of us in that same boat, so, at least you're in good company. I applied to columbia for visual arts but wasn't expecting to hear anything from them or RISD until late March/early April. When did you hear back from them?

Also, I've been wondering:

I've heard of one or two painters having interviewed at RISD and Columbia already. I don't know if anyone here can answer this question for me, but if someone hasn't been asked to interview at this point, is it likely a rejection? I think I already know the answer, but figured I would ask on the off chance that they don't interview everyone they accept or something like that... I'm still holding on to a tiny shred of hope.

I can't wait for this whole process to be over :) Good luck everyone.

I'm curious what the acceptance rates are to most of these programs, since it's not actually on most of the websites. Does anyone know what acceptance rates are like for MFA's in general?

I think most programs outside the top ten get somewhere around 100-300 applications for, usually, just 20-30 spots. I think Columbia gets around 1,000 applications for around 30 spots, but that's their entire visual arts program, so they only want a few painters, a few photographers, sculptors, etc. So for that program I think your odds are something like 1 in 200 but I could be wrong. SAIC's painting department got 500 applications from which they gave 100 interviews and from there 25 students will be accepted.

I'm not sure what the general acceptance rate for MFA programs is... But I'm going to say: bad :)

The ones I am aware of is Columbia about 1100 for 25 spots, SAIC Sculpture 150 for 10 spots, UNC Chapel Hill 110 for 8 spots, UNC Greensboro 40 for 8 spots.
