Hi I applied to Monmouth University, New York Medical College, Sacred Heart University, and Florida International University.

The school I have the most experience with is Sacred Heart. I interviewed the first time I applied there and was waitlisted and then rejected. They like to offer interviews in rounds and different time intervals. The first time I interviewed in May and the second time I interviewed in February.  The second time I applied there I interviewed and was then offered an acceptance. I interviewed with several professors and also in a group and they also took time to explain the program. The program is a new program and they are in the candidate stage which means that the first 5 years of the program ASHA watches to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. However you will still get your qualifications just like everyone else. There is no on campus clinic so all of your clinical experiences are offered off campus and you start from the first semester which I thought was a really cool opportunity. They offer specialty tracks such as medical slp and I think a bilinigual track...there was another track but I don't remember which. I really liked the program and the feel but the only negative for me was cost which is why I ended up not choosing the program. The cost of living in Connecticut is expensive and Sacred Heart is a private school so I wanted to save money.

New York Medical College is a great program if you want to focus on the medical aspect of slp. The only thing I know of Monmouth was the people I communicated with were quite pleasant!

I hope that was hopeful!

Hi! Thank you for your input, I appreciate it!

I really like the fact that SHU has tacks where one can specialize, but the whole accreditation aspect worries me a bit. Especially since it is a new program. I am under the impression that tuition there is about $13,000 per trimester though. I even emailed an advisor about their tuition and she confirmed that it's $13,100 per trimester. NYMC has a great program too, but super expensive. Monmouth is also private so it's more expensive than some others. Did you interview with FIU? I see you decided on Governors State University! Congratulations !

University of Central Florida is less competitive during the Spring and Summer admissions terms -- the average is about 155 applicants, compared to the 333+ applicants for Fall term. They accept about 32-40 applicants per admissions cycle.

One other thing to consider is the faculty and whether or not the faculty at each school is a good fit FOR YOU. Depending on what you want to do and where you want to end up, the schools are def important (tuition, acceptance, etc), but lets say you have a huge interest in dysphagia or voice- if the faculty person who teaches those classes isnt good, then you may be at a disadvantage when you start looking for jobs.  I offer tips on how to evaluate faculty on my website-- I teach at a university and started a website to give advice to people- www.slpgradschool.com

good luck!

Stockton has a weird essay prompt. Maybe not weird, but completely different from everyone else's. Or at least it did 2 years ago.

Thanks for the feedback! Congratulations on getting into UDel! How do you like it so far?

Good to know!! I might save that as a backup for the spring then. Thank you and best of luck! :)

Thanks! I'm in my second year. I really like it! I have a good practicum placement right now and that's all I can really ask for.
