Just got SSHRC at McGill. Hallelujah! <3

This is normal for a RA. I worked for a prof and one of the tables I did ended up being a part of his published paper. How does this in any form mean plagiarism?

Received my letter this afternoon in Boston... successful! Such a relief and a great boost of confidence going into comps tomorrow

Got the letter from SSHRC this afternoon. Pleased to report that I've been offered a CGS!!! Wooohoooooo!! $35,000/year for 3 years. Super happy! Some of my stats:
 
3rd time applying for a Ph.D. SSHRC;
2nd year in the Ph.D. programme, going into 3rd;
M.A. and Ph.D. GPA: just above A;
4 single author publications, mainly in grad student journals;
10 or so presentations, some at professional conferences, some at grad student conferences.
5 or 6 RA-ships; 3-4 TA-ships;
A ton of awards, including OGS and MA SSHRC.
Strong letters of support from supervisor and from another department member, both emerging and internationally-recognized experts in the field I am proposing to study;
SSHRC Program of Study: over 20 drafts, circulated to at least 12 members of my dept and fellow students.

I got a SSHRC CGS! (35k/3 years) Mail arrived 10 minutes ago at my place in Toronto. I'm through the roof with excitement!!!

Maybe I just eat a shit ton of food, but I spend at least 80 bucks a week at Walmart, mostly for groceries. Some weeks it is 100. I cook most of my meals, and I buy very few processed snacks. Pretty sure I'd be anorexic and irritable if I only spent 40 bucks a week on food.

I'll chime in to say that I was notified that I'm getting a super (CGS) SSHRC! I'm also immensely relieved and humbled by the news.
This was my FOURTH time applying, and my first success, so I've been through the SSHRC app/waiting gauntlet a few times!

I just found out from graduate studies that I was a successful SSHRC Fellowship winner...80K/4years.

Mhm, I agree. I'm just thinking that if part of SSHRC's (publicly-funded) mandate is to support and sustain good research and researchers, then it would make sense to do anything possible to allow doctoral students to make a good decision for school. I can't imagine it would be so difficult to have results released in March, for example, given that most universities submit their recommendations in January or even earlier. They are certainly sticking to their policy—it's just not the best one.

Thanks for letting us know that you were accepted off of the alternate list. Congrats on the award! This is big news for those of us still waiting. So this answers one question, the next one is... where exactly are each of us on the alternate list? Am I #1 of 5 or #20 of 20? This one we may never find out for sure. Let's cross our fingers for each of us!

As an English major, this speaks to my heart. Time to polish off my barista skills.

I usually say to my non-academic friends that it's 35k or 20k/year and I'm waiting to find out if I won...everyone understands money!

This isn't a beauty contest; what do you actually want to do that isn't the fanciful ravings of a poet?

A lot of universities hold information sessions to help you learn how to write your sshrc application. From there, get as many profs to review it as possible!
