  1. More rejections? None of my friends though right? Right- my friends are still good?
  2. all writing is creative work. all creation is poetry. So I guess we're all poets - I could never make anything more than an amateur attempt at it. But amateurism is love. So I'm okay with that.
  3. Rose was a girl TARDIS one too Hurry up spring I miss Doctor Who.
  4. In the blue corner, straightening his bow tie- BowTiesAreCool! "Hello there" Hailing from the planet Gailifry, BowTies is the last of the time lords. He wields a keen wit, a child-like curiosity, and an upgraded sonic-screwdriver. "And a banana" I'm gonna sonic-y wonik-y your lights out!
  5. I feel like I need an enemy. Lots of pent up... well it isn't anger or frustration. I dunno. I just feel like I need an enemy. Volunteers?
  6. Parseltongue? I guessssssss - I mean if you need him/her to translate your parseltongue. But if you can't translate your own parseltongue I dunno how you'll complete a degree in Contemporary Muggle Literature.
  7. Soon would be nice - although "be careful what you wish for". It would be a shame to not at least land on the wait list
  8. I wouldn't think anything of it. I've had several schools contact me past the deadline for missing stuff and I promise: I am far from interesting.
  9. Mikers - perhaps by last name? I'm late in the alphabet (S)
  10. Woah! I'm not attacking you. I'm not "harsh". I sincerely believe that you didn't intend to come off as elitist. Your opinions, your intellect, your research are in no way inferior or less valid. SK, look back on your bit about houses. 50-60k times four, and it doesn't buy you much of a house. Homes a block from my childhood home go for between 11-24k- perhaps they're not "much of a home" but they're the dreams and hopes of the young families buying them - they mean the world to those folks. Privilege, finances, etc. They're touchy subjects. I'm not jealous of you. and I don't expect you to be jealous of me. We've both lived different paths in life. I'm happy with mine. I hope you're happy with yours.
  11. Correction: All you said was that you could afford to go without funding AND you believed it would be a "win/win". I'm not really concerned with what you put on your application. I'm concerned with what you've written here and the built in assumptions you're making.
  12. Ya know. It sucked watching all the UT Austin spots fill up... but it wasn't that bad. I watched from the sidelines in years past and I always thought it must be a terrible experience. It's over now. and I'm alive. Perhaps I'll land on a wait-list. Perhaps they'll forward me a rejection. I survived.
  13. I'm inclined to disagree with you. First - I can't imagine "my parents are paying my bills" is the kind of privilege that most humanities professors want to surround themselves with. This isn't an insult - I'm just looking at my profs and I'm keeping my finger on the pulse of the blogs at The Chronicle. Secondly - I really doubt fiscal security is a criterion when building a class. Departments build classes and select students for their intellectual capabilities. Second-and-a-haf-ly - HOLY SMOKES! Win/Win? is this to suggest that the standards for people who can pay their own bill are somehow magically lower? You recognize this right? and you're okay with it?
  14. Looks like we're still left waiting.
  15. Folks - sometimes it takes longer. Have a ginger ale and relax. If not Austin at least somewhere else.
  16. I think they send them out based on the least amount of "status page" views.
  17. Nothing any of us can do about it now... unless you've been sandbagging and you have some super-powers.
  18. See! No worries. Not yet anyways.
  19. I dunno about those two rhet notifications ( 1 rejected 1 admitted) - they just come off as weird. Of course I'm playing the "why haven't I been notified yet?" game. Just sit tight... I'm sure it won't be much longer. I got an email last week from them looking for more info on me (I screwed something up I guess). Lets hope we hear good news by the end of the week!
  20. No need for that. See Academicat's advice. It is brilliant.
  21. I think we all have to be prepared for the worst situation. My second-least competitive school only, historically, funds about 12% of applicants. You have a higher math GRE than I do so you probably don't need me to tell you that because they only fund 12% then 88% are left rejected. So the odds are against us. Best of luck in managing the stress - it's the only thing we can control at this point.
  22. Cheers to the Knoxville Admit! I was thiiiiiiis close to applying there. I hope you get everything you want out of your admission!
  23. My schools still haven't begun notifying... I'm sort of kicking myself for not applying to Knoxville's Rhetoric MA - someone posted! But... I suppose I'd be let down if I didn't get in, Oh well. Cheers to a long week of waiting!
