  1. Hey! Welcome to the forum. I would maybe hold off on calling? From what I can tell none of the programs you’ve listed have released many acceptances - I’ve also applied to Brown and they’ve not sent anything out (according to the results page, at least). Might just be a case of waiting and seeing for a couple more weeks, which is frustrating for sure
  2. Hey, where did you see this / how did you find out?? Desperate for news! Sorry that you were rejected, good luck for other schools
  3. I think that location needs to be an important consideration too! You’ll be living in a city for six or seven years. It makes such a different to your quality of life (and quality of work) if you can love where you live too.
  4. Thanks @MintChocoChip and @qeta - appreciate the good wishes! It’s a great time to hear good news that’s not about PhDs
  5. Well I hope you get the official offer letter soon! Congrats again. I'm still waiting for news from all of mine ... has anyone received a rejection from UWM?
  6. @latemeg, did you hear from your POI or the grad department itself?
  7. I had some good news this morning! I got my dream job working as a researcher for a huge social research company. At least if I don’t get any offers I have a damned good back up plan
  8. No problem, obviously I am sure we would all love to help you! but we are probably not the most helpful people to do so
  9. Hi! Good to see a new person around here. Just fyi, we're all sociologists (you're in the sociology forum ) so you might find more advice on the Neuroscience board? I haven't applied to UMDCP so I can't advise on whether their sociology program has released acceptances yet either. Good luck!
  10. An invite! I wasn’t rejected last week but was told on Friday that the committee was still working. I’m international so always knew I wouldn’t be “going” to the weekend, but having Skype interviews if I do get asked for interview.
  11. Hey! It's okay to be negative of course, but why are you assuming that you couldn't get into a higher ranked program? Rejections happen all the time but usually it's partially because of fit, not just grades. If you have a better fit at the other schools, then you have just as good a chance at being accepted there too
  12. Hey, I'm sorry you haven't heard back from Temple yet - I'm still waiting on Emory to let me know about their recruitment weekend so I appreciate how hard the waiting period is! One thing I have noticed from the results page is that the UNC Chapel Hill results began coming out on 11th January and are still coming out! So it seems pretty clear to me that there are sometimes huge delays in responding to candidates, and just because one person found out already, doesn't mean you won't! Your POI might be out sick, the department is releasing admittances to related groups of students first (like people in the crime field, then people in health, etc), or they're just still deciding on the final candidates. It could be anything, and one admittance doesn't mean you're not in
  13. Anyone heard from Berkeley this morning? I suppose its still early, but it's evening for me now
  14. This sort of thing cracks me up! Don't professors know we are all on tenderhooks? If I'm ever fortunate enough to be on an adcomm, I will probably just do a conference call with all attendees to make sure everyone finds out at the same time Congrats to the two admits so far, hear's hoping that everyone on this board gets some good news soon. Also, thanks @qeta and @latemeg for your support - much appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the confidence but I know they’ve also sent out waitlist invites. I’ve been checking emails for the past month obsessively so I know there’s been no effort to reach out by email or phone - just not my year for IUB! Thanks ?
  16. Hey team, just had my first (admittedly implied) rejection. Indiana Bloomington sent out its Gender Studies acceptances on 19th Jan and its waitlist emails went out on 23rd Jan. I’ve just found out and checked my emails and portal again, and I’m still just submitted, which makes me think it’s a rejection. It definitely wasn’t my first choice ... but it still sucks, especially as I thought I had the grades and fit to get in. Kind words appreciated!
  17. Hey @indigopierogy and @toear5! How did you find out your results from IUB? When I log in my status just says submitted, not rejected or admitted ... did you get an email?
  18. It’s probably not much consolation right now, but if you look at some of the dates of results from 2017 on the results page, you see some people get admitted (off waitlists) right up until the deadline of April 15th - we shouldn’t lose all hope just yet, even if you think there are implicit rejections (and I know I’m being a bit hypocritical based on all my recent posts!) This waiting is so nerve wracking and hard, so please everyone be kind on yourselves and each other. We will get through it! Also for people worrying about GRE scores - it’s so hard to know the cut-offs! I called a grad administrator at one of my top schools who said that anything above 50% would be fine but they’d consider lower too. So really it isn’t just scores they’re looking for x
  19. Thanks @MintChocoChip - appreciate the support. It’s just both the school I like best and the School I think I’m most likely to get into (based on fit, grades, relationships wth faculty). Hoping for some good news today - it’s nearly 9am my time so gotta wait a full day for any updates!
  20. Is there anyone else who got an Emory interview invit but hasn’t posted it? I haven’t received any news from them - no rejections (which came out earlier this week) or invite (which came out today) and I am freaking out
  21. Email the graduate coordinators for each application to check first! You don’t want to upload a new transcript if they’re already reviewing the applications because then the documents they’re reviewing might not match the new ones you’ve submitted, which could cause confusion.
  22. I think it’s too early to do it, personally! Depending on your deadlines, it’s between a fortnight and a month since applications closed. I think late Feb is the earliest appropriate time ... I know how annoying that might be to hear tho!
  23. Hey, just seen some Emory rejections on the results board - would anyone mind telling me how you found out?
