I don't even have my hopes set on a particular place! I'm not sure why, but since my applications have been submitted/I've been waiting/posting on here, I doubt my ability to get in anywhere. It's really scary now.

What school was this for?
-
If they did, it would be ApplyYourself, the website where you submitted your app. But so far, they have been notifying via phone.
-
I haven't heard anything from UNC CH. I'm still not sure if they notified all admits yet. It doesn't seem it, though I'm not too optimistic.

There is a current thread about CU Boulder. It seemed they receive over 500 applications and accept around 30.

Good Sign, Omen or Hallucination - All Are Welcome!
SLPjmar replied to Eager's topic in Waiting it Out
According to results, about 3 people applying to my top choice have heard acceptances via phone. I'm struggling to determine if they're calling all admits (they did not call all last year) or if they are calling only certain applicants with special circumstances. I can't tell if I should call this one a wash. -
I think if it were only related to that grant, they would have known about funding. Either way, congratulations! I'm very happy for you, even though I'm not feeling great about my chances. You should be proud!
-
Aw congrats! I guess they are contacting all admits.
-
This may not be typical, but a friend of mine just interviewed and they also asked application-type questions. "Say you are evaluating a child for a language disorder, but they are becoming tired and disinterested. What do you do?"

Winter + application season

College Park isn't really a competitive program once you're in. It becomes so competitive application-wise because there are only 2 public schools in the state of Maryland that offer a SLP program. That being said, I have heard nothing but positive reviews about the program. The professors are great and you get a wonderful education. Additionally, since College Park is such a great school, you have wonderful clinical opportunities. I have been to College Park many times, and I personally feel like it's great. Everyone there is academically-driven (it's competitive even at the undergrad level), but everyone has a good time, too. You are also very close to D.C., which is a personal preference kind of thing. If you are seriously considering it, I would recommend a visit. But once it's warmer

Please send me good vibes this week! -
Congrats on UMD-College Park! I am in MD now for undergrad, and that is a great/competitive program. Good for you!
-
Ugh this sucks, it really does.
-
Aw I was so hopeful! I wouldn't have been so upset if it was a nice girl on here. Trying to stay optimistic!
-
Everything. It is unfortunate, since I recently lost 50+ lbs. Hoping I don't gain it all back in the next few weeks.
-
Did you receive a call? I am hoping you were the one
-
Thanks! I guess I didn't realize how much of a long-shot it was until I started reading on here. I am bracing for a rejection, although I wish I had an acceptance to cushion it with. Actually, since I've started posting on here, I am getting the impression I am not a competitive enough candidate anywhere I applied. Not quite sure how to handle it.

And someone else heard back from UNC CH. I feel like this is bad.
-
Tuition was my deciding factor in not applying there. The tuition plus cost of living would have put me in a LOT of debt.

Is it possible a school won't even tell you if your app is incomplete?
SLPjmar replied to hopeful80's topic in Waiting it Out
I would call ASAP. -

I don't think "best of luck to you" or "I wish you all the best" are negative. It's a sincere reply. -
Reversing a rejection with an email? Sending email while waiting?
SLPjmar replied to dungheap's topic in Waiting it Out
I don't think I would ever feel comfortable sending an e-mail essentially begging for another chance. I'd be too afraid that it would taint my reputation in the future (or now). -
Every time a junk e-mail is forwarded to my iPhone I die a little inside.

Choosing an area of Focus
SLPjmar replied to queenleblanc's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
My area of focus will (hopefully) be aural rehab/auditory verbal therapy/cochlear implants. I was inspired in high school by my ASL teacher (also an SLP) who worked with cochlear implant patients. I know for sure after double-majoring in speech pathology/Deaf studies that this is what I want to do.
