Starting to wonder why I am putting myself through this torture. Worst case scenario...I'll get no acceptances, start a new career, and stop being poor. I can totally live with that.

Anyone else regretting not applying to more schools?

I'm starting to regret applying at all. -
I wish every school did this.

1.5 years of undergrad research experience in an Applied Psyc Lab and post-grad research at Johns Hopkins. My undergrad research sparked my interest in communication science before I had any idea about CSD/SLP programs. If I had only known sooner... Sorry...courses do not count for research experience. Though, I'm not sure how important it is in SLP/CSD to have research experience, unless of course you are planning to pursue a PhD.

I now have a standing date with Netflix every night. Law and Order is pure crack. And, I've succumbed to the most humiliating addiction of all...the "Fallen" series that I found in teen fiction section of the library. Think Twilight...with Angels. I need help. Seriously.

I also regretting not placing more consideration on geography and climate. Although, if not accepted anywhere, I will most certainly use both as a factor in my relocation to anyplace that is NOT Northern Virginia. -

I have totally given up trying to figure out what the heck AdComs are looking for. It's so random. Sorry about your reject.

SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD
PsycD replied to twinguy7's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Finally someone who understands. Confession: If I don't get in anywhere, all of my Plan Bs involve living on one of the coasts, right on the water. Had I thought through all of this a little better, every school I applied to would have been near extremely large bodies of water i.e. oceans. That's how serious it is... -
SLP GRAD SCHOOL HOPES~DREAMS~GUESSES THREAD

Hope: That I will look back someday and not regret all of the sacrifices I made to return to school...by getting accepted somewhere...anywhere?!?! *Sigh* Dream: McGill Acceptance. Dream school. Dream research. Dream location. Dream get-out-of-Northern Virginia. Dream leave America. All-around Dream. Guess: University of Arizona MA Comm program. I don't mind the heat...it's the lack of moisture I can't handle. My totally awesome hair needs humidity. -

I am embarking on a new fitness challenge: Losing 20lbs in 30 days. With all this stress, I'm sure it will be no problem.

I seem to be developing a new addiction each month. December was Ghirardelli Sea Salt Soiree dark chocolate with almonds. January was Cheez-Its (Smoked Cheddar). February has been marked by intense pizza and chinese food cravings. I've battled those too pretty well, but I gave in to alcohol, particularly Original Sin hard cider. Note to Self: Consuming anything with the word "Sin" in its name will inevitably lead to bad things. That stuff is just...wrong.

I am trying hard to resist those very same things...and dangerously close to losing the battle.

As a fellow Psyc applicant, I totally feel your pain. I don't know what these AdComs are looking for. I've stopped checking the status of my Psyc applications altogether and am just hoping for the best with my Communication program apps. I'm thankful that my PI opened my eyes to all of the possibilities outside of Psyc.

Our situations are very similar. I had a long list of Psyc PhD programs to apply to, but I felt like I was trying to force a fit in most places, so I decided to only apply to 3 Psyc programs. Fortunately, one of my professors suggested that I look into communication programs instead, considering my research interests. I had a much easier time putting together my Comm applications. So, I did 3 Psyc and 3 Comm. There was no way I was going to spend the next 4-5 years in a program with a bad research fit. I would have been miserable. I may feel differently if I end up getting rejected from all of them, though. -
English is my first language so I'm not sure if it's tough to learn. But to me, compared to French, English is rough-sounding when spoken, kind of like when Orcs speak (if you get the Lord of the Rings reference). Watching movies in French is a good way to pick up the language. I know a few people who have learned to speak English by watching television and movies. It is nice not having to read sous-titres. Je vous en prie Bon chance!

Your french friend is right about the accent...we women are suckers for it. A stroke??? Omg..Hahaha! That is terrible! Please know that you're not alone in the struggle to speak French. While I may not sound like I'm having a stroke, I still have a crazy accent. Going from English to French is the worst. English is such a rough, coarse language to speak. French is more smooth and sensual. Keep me posted on your McGill status! I really hope you get in.
